A useful fit for

For a buyer who wants evaporative invisible-moisture output, accepts an inverted one-gallon tank and recurring wick care, and values a Starry Night projector that can run independently. Do not choose it to satisfy an exact numeric room-area requirement: Vicks' own page conflicts on coverage.

The main tradeoff

The separate projector and VapoPad slot add a bedtime option without making the unit smart or humidity-target controlled. The manual documents only High/Low fan output and a 120 V plug, while ongoing wick care and weekly cleaning are part of ownership. The page's two-pad statement conflicts with the manual's singular slot instructions; the manual also uses both WF2 and PWF2 filter codes. Verify those details if either is essential.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Do you want evaporative invisible moisture rather than a visible ultrasonic mist plume?

Yes. The V3700 uses a wetted wick and fan to evaporate water; the manufacturer describes the output as invisible cool moisture.

Is an inverted, removable bottom-fill tank acceptable or essential for your routine?

The one-gallon V3700 tank is removed and turned over for filling; it is not top-fill.

Explore this need in the finder →
Do you want a manufacturer-designated aroma-pad route instead of adding oils to the water?

The manual describes a separate VapoPad slot and prohibits essential oils, medications and inhalant liquids in the water tank. It documents one slot even though the page says two pads, so exact pad capacity remains uncertain.

Explore this need in the finder →
Is a one-gallon tank large enough for your minimum documented capacity?

The manufacturer lists 1.0 U.S. gallon, approximately 3.785 L; a 3.7 L minimum is met, but a 4.0 L minimum is not.

The Vicks V3700 Starry Night is an evaporative cool-moisture model, not an ultrasonic humidifier that sends out a visible mist plume. Its defining extra is a separate star projector that the manual says can run without the humidifier. The trade is a removable bottom-fill tank and recurring wick care, plus a manufacturer room-size claim that conflicts across the product page.

What the V3700 actually does

Water is pulled into a wicking filter and a fan carries air through it, so the moisture is described by Vicks as cool and invisible. If you want a visible plume or ultrasonic operation, this is the wrong mechanism. The exact blue U.S. listing identifies SKU V3700 and a one-gallon tank. Vicks claims up to 24 hours on the Low setting; treat that as a manufacturer maximum, not a guarantee of a full day at every setting or in every room.

Room sizing needs caution. The product-detail field says “Small-Medium,” while the feature section calls it a medium-room model and gives 250–400 square feet. Those statements do not line up closely enough to turn them into a dependable numeric coverage match. If a minimum square-foot figure is essential, choose a product whose current exact-model page gives a consistent rating. The V3700 should not be selected on the assumption that it guarantees a particular room area.

The projector is separate; humidity automation is not established

The manual describes two operating jobs: High or Low fan output, and a separate projector switch. It explicitly says the projector can operate independently. That makes the star display useful when the room needs the projection but the humidifier does not need to run. The product page uses the phrase “variable humidity control,” but the manual's operating directions explain High/Low fan settings rather than a numeric humidity target, a display, or a sensor-based setpoint. I would not buy this model for a chosen relative-humidity percentage or app control.

The manual calls Low a nighttime sound-sleep setting, but neither it nor the page gives a decibel reading. It is a maker-described quiet mode, not a measured silence claim. The pictured front controls and manual point to straightforward on-unit operation, not a remote or connected setup.

Refilling and maintenance are the main ownership trade

The tank comes off and is inverted for filling. That is a familiar arrangement, but it is not a top-fill pour-through. The manual says to use cool tap water, avoid moving the unit once the filled tank is placed, and use two hands to lift a full tank. A one-gallon tank is more substantial than a small bedside reservoir, so the handling instructions matter if you need to carry it far from a sink.

The wick is a consumable. Vicks recommends replacing it every 30–60 days depending on water quality and use, and says hard water can shorten its useful interval. The manual names WF2 in its replacement steps and PWF2 in its maintenance section; check the exact package or Vicks support before ordering so you buy the right part. It also recommends weekly scale removal and disinfection, with the wick removed before cleaning. This is more routine than a filter-free ultrasonic unit: budget time for cleaning and occasional replacement, not just tank refills.

Use the scent route carefully

The V3700 offers a dedicated scent-pad slot, separate from its water path. Its manual says not to put essential oils, medicines, VapoSteam or other inhalant liquid into the tank. That is a clear difference from models whose manuals explicitly allow an oil-in-water route. The product page says the machine accepts two VapoPads and lists one included, while the linked manual shows one slot and instructs you to insert one pad. Because those statements conflict, rely on the manual-described slot and do not plan around a two-pad capacity without confirmation from Vicks.

Who should choose it—and what to compare

Consider the V3700 if evaporative output, a separate projector, a one-gallon reservoir and a designated aroma-pad path fit your room and routine. It is a poor fit if you require top-fill, zero consumable filters, a selectable humidity percentage, a precise verified room-area minimum, or a connected control. It is also a poor fit if frequent wick replacement and weekly scale/disinfection chores are deal-breakers.

For a smaller, visible-mist ultrasonic alternative with simple controls, compare the Vicks VUL500; its mechanism and care routine are different, so do not treat its scent instructions as interchangeable with this model's. If you want evaporative output with a top-fill arrangement, compare the Vornado EV3 and check its larger footprint and wick plan. These alternatives solve different constraints; neither comparison makes the V3700's room-size conflict disappear.

Evidence and limits

Vicks' current U.S. product page identifies the blue SKU and lists the tank, runtime and room claims; the linked V3700 Series manual supplies the operating and care limits discussed above. The exact product-page image could not be retrieved locally, so the review uses the inspected thumbnail from Vicks' model-specific Getting Started video. Its photography-versus-render status is not known. No ownership test, measured output, price, current retailer stock or exact retail ASIN is claimed.

Paper, software and setup details

Manufacturer noise claim

The manual describes Low as a nighttime sound-sleep mode; no dBA figure is published in the inspected product page/manual.

Manufacturer cleaning interval

Manual recommends weekly scale removal and disinfection, removing the wick before cleaning; replace wick every 30-60 days depending on water quality and use.

Water and care limits

Evaporative output is invisible. Manual warns not to add essential oils, medication or inhalant liquids to the tank; the scent-pad slot is a separate route.
