Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Is a top-fill four-liter tank large enough for your room and refill routine?
Dreo's HM311 page identifies a 4 L top-fill tank; no setting-specific runtime is established.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you need automatic humidity targeting or are three manual mist levels enough?
The model-labeled HM311 instructions describe Manual Mode and Sleep Mode but no chosen humidity target.
Explore this need in the finder →Would you use a separate aroma pad, and do you need to put oil directly in the water?
The HM311 instructions identify a separate aroma pad and warn against putting oil into the water tank.
Explore this need in the finder →This review is for Dreo’s U.S. HM311 4L listing at product record 8047873851554, not the later product record also named Humidifier 311 and not either 311S listing. The HM311 has a useful, ordinary plan: top-fill ultrasonic cool mist, three manual mist levels, a dimmable night light and a separate aroma pad. Its small-room rating is a maker claim, and its runtime language is not tied to a setting.
Identify the listing before you compare it
Dreo’s current collection links to an HM311 4L page whose product record offers White, Blue, Black and Grey variants. The record gives each finish a separate SKU and UPC; the white, blue, black and grey SKUs are 10-16001-117, 10-16001-15C, 10-16001-105 and 10-16001-181. A model-labeled manual transcription calls the appliance DR-HHM001. The Dreo product page says a user manual is in the box but does not name that code or link a PDF; the mirrored document is useful evidence, not a substitute for checking the label on a particular unit.
This distinction matters because Dreo now has a second product record named Humidifier 311, with different record and finish identifiers, and a separate Humidifier 311S and Smart Humidifier HM311S. They should not inherit one another’s manuals or specifications just because the names share “311.” The current HM311 record here is item 8047873851554 with the older HM311/DR-HHM001 manual text; it is not the 2026 product record 9305389236386, the current 311S record 9317697978530 or the smart HM311S record 8047872868514.
A compact four-liter body, with a 300-square-foot claim
The Dreo product page describes a top-fill, ultrasonic cool-mist appliance with a 4 L reservoir. It lists a 120 V, 60 Hz input, 26 W rated power, 28 dB noise level, 300 square feet of effective area, and dimensions of 5.51 inches deep by 11.02 wide by 10.16 high; These figures are the manufacturer’s specifications, not room tests or independent sound measurements. The 300-square-foot rating is a reasonable screening boundary, not proof that the same humidity will reach every corner of an open-plan room. Doorways, ceiling height, outside air and placement change how much moisture a room needs.
The product record’s marketing text says the 4 L tank can run “up to 32 hours,” but the live technical specification block does not provide a runtime figure or conditions. Do not turn that headline into a refill schedule or an essential numeric limit. A dry room at a higher mist level will use water faster than a lower-output routine.
Manual buttons rather than automatic targeting
The model-labeled manual describes power, Manual Mode, Sleep Mode and Ambient Light buttons. Manual Mode cycles among low, medium and high mist. Sleep Mode switches to low and turns off the indicators and night light; the light button cycles through high brightness, low brightness and off. This is practical local control, not a humidity-target system: no selectable humidistat target, appliance timer or phone control is documented for this exact HM311 plan. If you need the unit to respond to a chosen humidity setpoint, or need remote scheduling, compare a separate model whose exact instructions specify those features rather than importing functions from a 311S page.
Aroma stays separate from the water
The HM311 has a pull-out aroma-pad tray. The instructions say to put a small amount of oil on the pad only, not into the water tank, and warn that fragrance may be mild and is not adjustable. That is a secondary scent feature, not a reason to choose the appliance as a dedicated diffuser. Leaving the pad tray empty is fine;
Plan for cleaning, not just refilling
Dreo’s product FAQ advises regular descaling and says purified or distilled water can help prevent mineral scale. The model-labeled instructions specify a level, water-resistant surface, at least 12 inches from a wall or major obstacle, and directing mist away from furnishings and electrical equipment. They say to unplug before care, keep water out of the air outlets, avoid running the main body under water, drain the base and tank before refilling, and clean the aroma tray separately. The mirrored manual’s schedule calls for descaling about monthly and rinsing the pad tray weekly. Follow the actual instructions supplied with the unit if they differ; this review does not recommend putting oil in the tank or dishwasher-cleaning parts.
Ultrasonic mist also makes water quality and placement visible considerations. Minerals in hard water can leave residue; aim the outlet away from walls and surfaces and watch the room rather than assuming the area claim sets a safe humidity level. Reduce output or switch the unit off if condensation appears.
Who should keep it on the shortlist?
The HM311 suits someone looking for a straightforward, app-free, four-liter top-fill cool-mist humidifier for a bedroom or similarly bounded room, with three manual output levels and a light that can be dimmed or shut off. It is less suited to anyone who needs selectable humidity targeting, a timer, remote operation, warm mist or a setting-specific runtime guarantee. Its relatively small footprint can fit a bedside surface, but its mist still needs clearance and a water-resistant location; it should not sit directly on carpet or send mist at electronics.
Compare the Dreo HM311S if connected control is essential, but match its own model code and instructions. Compare the current Humidifier 311 record only as a separate listing: its page makes different operating claims and the manufacturer has not cross-linked the two manuals. If clarity of maintenance and controls matters more than a shared capacity number, a model with a directly linked exact manual is an easier purchase to verify.
