A useful fit for

Choose this model if you want Levoit’s tap-water-friendly evaporative approach, invisible vapor, top filling and sensor-based Auto without VeSync or Wi-Fi setup, and the 4.5 L tank suits your refill routine.

The main tradeoff

The 50% Auto target is not selectable on this model, and the wick still needs regular washing and drying. Levoit’s current product page showed the model sold out at review time; its 600 sq ft figure is a manufacturer claim, not a room-specific performance result.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Do you want a wick-fed evaporative humidifier rather than visible ultrasonic mist?

The LEH-S451-WUS manual describes an evaporative wick and Levoit’s page says it releases invisible vapor.

Can the on-device Auto routine and its default target work without an app-set cutoff?

The manual describes sensor-based Auto at a default 50% target; unlike the Smart 450S, this configuration has no connected custom target.

Are tap-water compatibility and washable wet-side parts more important than remote settings?

Levoit describes the wick as holding minerals, and the manual identifies washable and dishwasher-safe removable parts; app control is not documented for this model.

The Levoit Superior Studio is the non-connected member of Levoit’s 4.5-liter evaporative line. Its useful distinction from the usual tabletop ultrasonic unit is not a bigger tank or a visible plume: a fan moves room air through a washable wick, so the moisture leaves as invisible vapor and the wick holds minerals instead of dispersing them as white dust. The trade is a filter-and-fan routine that still needs regular attention. Choose this model when you want that evaporative approach with on-device controls and no required app setup; skip it if you need warm mist, a user-selected humidity cutoff, or a no-wick appliance.

The exact model and its plain-control approach

The current Levoit U.S. listing calls this the Superior Studio 450 Evaporative Humidifier. Its single Shopify variant is SKU HEAPHULVNUS0111Y, which Levoit presently marks sold out; the linked U.S. manual identifies model LEH-S451-WUS. The shared 450 name is a model-family label, not a 450-square-foot coverage rating. Levoit lists 600-square-foot coverage, a 4.5-liter tank, and up to 40 hours on low fan; those are claims, not room-specific performance results.

On the unit, a display shows relative humidity and buttons select fan speed, Auto, Sleep, Dry, and descaling. The manual describes a sensor-based Auto routine with a default 50% target; the user can choose low, medium, high, or Auto and can turn the appliance off when the room reaches a preferred level. The 450 does not have the Studio Smart’s VeSync connection, remote settings, schedules, app cleaning reminders, or adjustable 30–80% Auto target. The product page includes a generic VeSync promotional panel, but its 450 model-specific feature description, manual, and Levoit’s comparison of the two Studio models reserve app control for the Smart version. If a selectable target matters more than a fixed preset, step up to the Smart 450S rather than assuming this display is an app interface.

Evaporative output is invisible, not effortless

Air passes through the wet wick and the unit circulates the resulting vapor; it does not heat water or produce the visible ultrasonic spray many shoppers expect. Levoit says the wick captures tap-water minerals, avoiding the white residue associated with mineral-laden ultrasonic mist. That can help when distilled water is inconvenient, but deposits still collect in the wick and water path, so cleaning remains necessary. The listing also describes EPA-registered antimicrobial materials on water-contact surfaces to help inhibit mold growth. Levoit says this material claim does not protect people against germs or disease organisms; it is not a hygiene guarantee.

Its published maximum is 400 mL/h ±15%; the product page labels this “Max Mist Output,” although this evaporative model releases no visible mist. Levoit lists the area as up to 600 square feet, a maximum runtime of 40 hours with a ±10% allowance on low fan speed, and 19–45 dB measured 1.5 meters away. The room-area, output, runtime, and sound figures are useful comparison points, not independently measured results in your home. Actual water use changes with temperature, humidity, and fan speed. The appliance is listed at 12 W and 6.1 pounds; its three dimensions are 9.1 × 9.1 × 15.8 inches, but the product page does not label the axes. Measure the shelf and clearance rather than treating 15.8 inches as a confirmed height.

Refill and cleaning are the ownership test

The top grille gives direct access for pouring water, but follow the MAX and MIN marks and switch the unit off before topping it up. Place it on a hard, flat, water-resistant surface at least 12 inches from walls so the rear humidity sensor can read more usefully; do not put it where a spill or an over-humidified room can damage nearby material. The manual recommends keeping relative humidity in the 40–60% range and says to avoid running above 60% unless a plant or furnishing needs it. There is no warm-mist mode and no essential-oil route: the manual specifically says not to put oils in this humidifier.

Levoit’s manual calls for changing water and cleaning the tank every three days, and cleaning the wick every two weeks and after humidifying when ready. Clean and dry it rather than leave water sitting if it will be unused for a week or longer. The wick can be washed with laundry detergent or citric acid and may be machine washed; the “up to two years” filter-life claim assumes one wash each week. The wick frame, support frame, and tank are dishwasher-safe, but never the top or water-pump assembly. Dry Mode helps dry the wick; citric-acid Descaling Mode loosens buildup. Neither substitutes for routine disassembly and washing.

Who should choose it—and who should not

Choose the Studio 450 if your priorities are invisible evaporative output, tap-water compatibility, a sizable top-fill tank, and automatic sensing without account, network, or app setup. The same basic water path and capacity are available in the Studio Smart; the simpler model removes the connected controls, not the wick-care work. Its current manufacturer page showed it sold out when checked, so treat this as a model assessment and verify availability and exact model labels before purchase.

Consider the Superior Studio Smart when changing the Auto target in VeSync, checking humidity remotely, scheduling, or app cleaning reminders is worth the setup. Consider the Classic 300S if you specifically want an app-connected ultrasonic cool-mist format rather than an evaporative wick; its different water and mineral routine is covered in its own review. Neither Studio model is the right answer if you require heated warm mist, a handheld remote, or confirmed fit under a height limit that the maker’s unlabeled dimension sequence does not establish.

Paper, software and setup details

Manufacturer noise claim

19–45 dB; manufacturer test stated at 1.5 m from the humidifier.

Manufacturer cleaning interval

Change water and clean tank every 3 days; clean wick filter every 2 weeks and after humidifying when ready; clean and dry before a week or longer in storage.

Water and care limits

Use the top grille and stay between MAX and MIN. Place on a level, water-resistant surface at least 12 in from walls so the rear humidity sensor can function. Wash the wick with laundry detergent or citric acid and rinse thoroughly; the manual permits washing-machine care. The wick frame, support frame and tank may be placed in a dishwasher; never put the top or pump assembly in one. Dry Mode assists drying; Descaling Mode uses citric acid and is not a substitute for regular cleaning. Do not add essential oils. Follow the manual and avoid running above 60% RH unless required for a plant or furnishing.
