Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can I require sensor-based humidity adjustment instead of setting mist only by hand?
Yes. The manual describes Auto Mode using the unit's humidity sensor, with a default 40–50% target range that can be changed in VeSync.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I control the humidifier remotely and use app settings?
Yes. The current page and manual document VeSync remote control and app functions such as humidity monitoring and schedules.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I use essential oil without putting it in the water?
Yes, only through the separate aroma pad; the manual says not to put oil in the tank or base.
Explore this need in the finder →The Levoit Classic 300S is the Classic-series option for a larger tank and connected humidity control. Its six-liter top-fill reservoir, automatic mist mode, VeSync app and separate aroma pad distinguish it from the rotary-knob Classic 100 and 160. Those additions can be useful, but they bring app requirements and do not remove daily water changes or weekly cleaning.
A six-liter tank with a published room range
Levoit lists 1.58 gallons / 6 liters, up to 60 hours on the low mist setting, and an effective range of 215–505 square feet. The runtime claim is explicitly for low output; it is not a general promise for every room or setting. The range is a manufacturer figure rather than a measured result here. Room layout, open doorways, ceiling height and the humidity already present can all make a single upper number a poor substitute for checking conditions at home.
Filling is through the top after lifting off the cover. The manual also describes handles for removing the tank from the base, and a water-resistant, level location with at least 12 inches of space from walls. Direct mist away from bedding, furniture and appliances. At listed dimensions of 9.6 by 7.5 by 13.4 inches and a weight of 4.3 pounds, the 300S is taller and heavier than the two smaller Classic models; measure both shelf space and refill clearance.
Auto mode changes the operating plan
The 300S has low, medium, high and Auto mist settings. In Auto Mode, its humidity sensor changes mist output or stops misting to maintain the manual’s default 40–50% relative-humidity range; VeSync lets you change the target settings. If the measured level is above the selected target, the unit may not mist. That behavior is materially different from the Classic 100 and 160, where the user chooses a manual knob setting.
A sensor reading describes the unit’s environment, not a guarantee that humidity is uniform through a whole home. Put the humidifier where its manual allows, keep a separate room measurement if that distinction matters, and respond to condensation or over-humid conditions by reducing output or stopping use as instructed.
App control is a separate feature from Auto
The product page and manual describe VeSync for remote control, mist and Auto settings, humidity monitoring, timers and schedules, plus voice control through Alexa or Google Assistant. On-device buttons remain available, so the app is not the only way to turn the unit on or choose a basic setting. The manual notes that its timer must be set in the app and that additional smart functions are accessed there. If phone-free scheduling is a must, check the current app and network requirements before treating this model as a fit.
The manual names the product series Classic 300S and models Classic 300S / LUH-A601S-WUSB. The current product page lists UPC 810043373210. Match the exact label and the US instructions if a seller uses an abbreviated name; “Classic” alone is not enough to identify the connected version.
Aroma belongs on the pad, not in the tank
The package list includes three aroma pads, one installed. Levoit instructs users to apply oil to the aroma pad in the removable aroma box and explicitly says not to put oils, supplemental water treatments or third-party filters into the tank or base. The manual calls the aroma intended to be light and says the machine is not an aroma diffuser. This is a narrow extra feature, not a reason to use fragrance in the water or to expect a dedicated essential-oil diffuser’s output.
Water and maintenance remain ordinary work
The manual recommends purified or distilled water and avoiding high-mineral water. It says to change the water daily and clean the unit weekly and before storage. No part should go in a dishwasher, and the base must not be immersed. Its maintenance section describes rinsing and a vinegar descaling procedure; follow those steps, keep liquid out of the air outlet and never pour water into the base chamber. A six-liter reservoir postpones refills; it does not postpone cleaning.
Ultrasonic models can send water minerals into the room, so white residue near the unit is a cue to revisit water choice, output and cleaning. The manufacturer’s care guidance is more useful than assuming a smart mode can manage the water for you.
How it compares with the Classic 100 and 160
Choose the Classic 100 if you want a smaller 2.4-liter tank, a rotary dial and a listed range up to 290 square feet, and accept turning the tank over to refill. Choose the Classic 160 if top-fill, a manual knob and the manual’s specific dishwasher-safe parts list are the priority; no room-area figure is published for it. The Classic 300S is the only reviewed model with sensor-based automatic mist adjustment, app control, a 6-liter tank, a room-area range up to 505 square feet and a designated aroma pad. It is also the tallest and its smart extras add setup choices rather than making maintenance disappear.
Who should consider the Classic 300S?
Consider it when you want a larger fill, top access, automatic humidity adjustments and connected schedules in one unit, and you accept its dimensions, placement rules and cleaning schedule. Skip the app feature if you do not want to manage an account, phone or network, and do not choose a higher coverage number as proof that it will control the humidity throughout a connected home. A separate room meter and the manual’s guidance still matter. As with the other models, this review assesses documentation, not measured output or personal use.
