Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can I require top-fill while keeping a rotary control?
Yes. The Classic 160 is top-fill and its output is controlled by a manual knob.
Explore this need in the finder →Does this model's manual identify dishwasher-safe humidifier components?
Yes, but only the listed removable parts and below 158°F / 70°C; the base is excluded.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I require a 2.5-liter tank, no more than 2.5 liters, and a listed height under 11 inches?
Yes. The manufacturer lists a 2.5-liter tank and a height of 10.14 inches.
Explore this need in the finder →The Levoit Classic 160 pairs a 2.5-liter tank with a removable top cover, a rotary mist knob and a 360-degree nozzle. It sits between a small, inverted-tank basic model and Levoit’s larger connected Classic 300S—but its most useful distinction is the cleaning routine documented in its own US manual. Do not choose it by tank size alone: the current product page and linked manual do not provide a manufacturer room-area range.
Top-fill does not mean maintenance-free
To fill the Classic 160, lift off the cover and pour room-temperature water into the tank. You do not have to flip a full reservoir over to reach a bottom cap. A rotary knob controls mist output, and the nozzle can be turned to direct it. Levoit lists a 2.5-liter capacity and a maximum runtime of up to 25 hours at the minimum mist setting; its product details also list up to 11 hours at maximum output. Those are different operating conditions, not an assurance that one fill lasts a full day in your room.
Levoit lists output at about 100 milliliters per hour on minimum and 190 milliliters per hour on maximum, each with a stated tolerance of ±20% under a stated indoor temperature condition. The page’s noise claim is less than 28 dB at maximum mist; it should not be treated as a directly comparable test against other models whose pages do not attach a setting to their noise figure. These are maker-published numbers, not measurements from this review.
A useful maintenance distinction, with a boundary
The linked US manual says to clean this humidifier every three days and before storage. It identifies the water tank, cover, water-filter housing and filter, mist tube and float as dishwasher-safe below 158°F / 70°C. That list has a clear limit: the electrical base is not dishwasher-safe and must never be immersed. Follow the manual’s disassembly and temperature guidance instead of assuming that every removable-looking part can go in the machine.
The manual recommends purified or distilled water, says to fill only with clean water, and prohibits essential oils in the tank or base. There is no documented aroma pad on the reviewed model. If fragrance is part of your plan, compare the Classic 300S, whose separate pad is the only described route for oils; never pour oil into a water reservoir.
Know what the manufacturer does not rate
At the time checked, Levoit’s Classic 160 product page gives tank capacity, output, runtime, noise, dimensions and weight, but no room-area coverage figure. That gap makes it a poor choice for a buyer who needs the manufacturer to state a minimum room-area number. A reviewer should not invent a square-foot range by borrowing a sibling model’s claim or turning a tank volume into a room rating. The finder therefore treats the area field as unknown, not as proof that the 160 covers a small, medium or large room.
It also lacks the documented app and sensor-based automatic mode found on the 300S. The manual describes a physical control knob and basic operation; it does not show an app pairing or target-humidity setup. If you want automation, choose from documented connected models rather than expecting an app because the name is similar.
Where it fits among the Classic models
Compared with the Classic 100, the 160 changes the fill arrangement and care options: it has top-fill convenience, a 2.5-liter tank, a three-day cleaning interval, and a manual-approved list of dishwasher-safe components. It does not add a verified room-area range or automatic humidity control. Compared with the Classic 300S, it is a simpler knob-operated setup with a smaller tank and no documented smart features; the 300S adds a published 215–505-square-foot range, app control and an aroma pad, but is taller and requires a different weekly care routine.
The product page lists white and black Classic 160 variants under the same model name. The linked manual file identifies the US model family as LUH-A251-WUS; it does not map the currently listed black finish to a separate suffix on the product page. Verify the manual and label for the exact item a seller ships. A finish difference is not evidence of a different capacity or feature set, but a different model number would need its own check.
Placement and water still matter
Use a level location away from direct heat and do not place the appliance directly on carpet or a rug. The manual says to aim mist away from nearby surfaces and not to add water directly into the base or mist tube. It recommends purified or distilled water to reduce mineral residue. If output becomes weak or a smell develops, use the manual’s troubleshooting and cleaning steps rather than adding a treatment liquid or taking the base apart.
Who should consider the Classic 160?
Choose it for a manual-control routine where a top opening and the precise dishwasher-safe parts list are worth more than app connectivity. Its 2.5-liter size and compact listed height may suit a shelf or nightstand, but check the dimensions and clearance in the actual space; no manufacturer area rating is available to validate room fit. Choose the Classic 100 for its stated area range and smaller capacity if you accept bottom-fill and non-dishwasher cleaning. Choose the Classic 300S if you need automatic humidity adjustment, remote app settings, a larger tank or an explicit area claim. The decisive tradeoff is not a ranking—it is the documented routine you can maintain.
