A useful fit for

Choose Sprout if you want an evaporative humidifier for a smaller room, appreciate its included standalone humidity sensor, low-fan sleep mode and adjustable night light, and can support the app setup and recurring filter care where desired.

The main tradeoff

Its 3.8 L tank and 219 sq ft maker claim are smaller than Levoit's Superior Studio options, and its Auto target is only customizable through VeSync. It needs weekly tank/wet-side care and regular wick and air-filter replacement; the sleep-noise figure and sensor-battery type conflict between current manufacturer documents.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Do you need wick-fed evaporative operation, with no visible ultrasonic mist plume?

The page calls Sprout evaporative and the exact manual says its vapor is invisible.

Do you want automatic humidity response with an app-selected target, and can you use VeSync setup?

The included sensor enables Auto; the 50% default works without an app, while a selected target and app settings require VeSync connectivity.

Would a tank of 4 liters or less and a maker-stated room range around 219 square feet suit your plans?

The Sprout holds 3.8 liters and Levoit lists a 219-square-foot range; that published figure is not a guarantee for an individual room.

The Levoit Sprout is a compact, sensor-equipped evaporative humidifier whose appeal is a child-oriented sleep routine—not a visible mist plume. Its separate humidity sensor, automatic mode, night light and app give it more control than a simple nursery-style tabletop unit, while its 3.8-liter reservoir and maker-listed 219-square-foot range keep it in the smaller-room class. The important catch is that a “Baby Sleep” label is a fan/display setting, not a pediatric safety or medical claim.

One current U.S. model, with a real manual bridge

Levoit’s U.S. page has one Default Title variant (SKU HEAPHULVSUS0102Y); the linked English manual names the humidifier LEH-B381S-WNA and sensor LSR-B0201EH-WNA. Levoit sells the Sprout-specific LRW-B381-ANA replacement wick and a separate air filter; verify that a replacement is listed for your exact model.

This is evaporation across a wet wick, with a fan moving air through the unit; the manual says water vapor is invisible. That is a meaningful difference from Levoit’s ultrasonic cool-mist machines, which emit a visible plume. The page says tap water is suitable, but hard water can still mean faster mineral buildup and more wick changes. Although Levoit uses “purified humidification” marketing language, this review does not treat the intake filter as a room air purifier or promise a health benefit.

What the sleep features do—and do not establish

The external sensor measures relative humidity and temperature and has its own small readout. Keep the separate sensor more than 12 inches from walls and corners and away from dust for a useful room reading. Paired to the humidifier, it lets Auto adjust fan speed; the manual says the default target is 50% RH. You can change the target in VeSync, along with remote operation, timers, humidity monitoring, filter-life reminders and night-light color/brightness. Auto does not require a phone if you are content with the default target. Customizing that cutoff and using the app do require connected setup: Levoit’s manual calls for a secure 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and VeSync account, with Bluetooth used while pairing. Setup also needs temporary phone location permission; no physical remote is included.

Baby Sleep Mode turns the fan to low and switches off the humidifier’s display. It does not prove that a particular humidity is right for a child, make the unit safe to place within reach, or replace ordinary supervision. The manual says children should be supervised around the appliance, warns against fingers or objects in the vents, and flags a coin-cell battery in the sensor as an ingestion hazard. There is an especially important documentation conflict: its safety warning names a CR2025 battery, while the sensor replacement instructions name CR2477. Confirm the correct part with Levoit before replacing it; do not guess based on either line. The product page also carries a California Proposition 65 warning naming lead. That is the manufacturer’s disclosure, not a measured exposure result.

Size, fill and sound are modest-room decisions

The 3.8-liter (1-gallon) tank is removable for sink filling and has a top lid; Levoit calls the design top-fill. Its stated effective range is 219 square feet, a maker figure rather than a guarantee for an actual room. Listed runtime is up to 36 hours at the Sleep fan speed, 24 hours on Low, or 11 hours on High, with actual duration varying by temperature and humidity. It weighs 6 pounds before water. Its dimensions are listed as 9.3 by 9.3 by 14.8 inches, but the sources do not label the axes, so do not rely on 14.8 inches as a confirmed height if a shelf opening is tight.

The sound figures conflict: the page says Sleep is below 20 dB, the manual says below 26 dB and also prints a general 22–50 dB range. Both give Low below 30 and High below 45 at 1.5 meters. These are maker claims, not a bedside test; the Sleep figure is unsettled.

Filter upkeep is the ownership trade

Levoit recommends replacing the wick every three months, sooner with very hard water or excessive impurities. The separate air filter can last up to three months depending on environmental conditions; the app can track filter life. The current official two-pack wick listing identifies LRW-B381-ANA and says it is for Sprout; keep that exact fit in mind when planning future replacements. Neither part is a washable wick substitute. By contrast, the water tank and wick frame (including floats) are dishwasher-safe only up to 160°F; that does not mean the motor or filters can go in the dishwasher.

The manual’s basic routine is more than pressing Dry Mode: clean the tank at least weekly during daily use, descale the wick frame about weekly (more often if water quality warrants), and wash/rinse and dry components as directed. Dry Mode runs the fan after humidification to help dry the wick, with timed Low, High and Turbo cycles; it is not a substitute for cleaning. Levoit prohibits essential oils, supplemental water-treatment liquids and third-party water filters in the tank, so there is no approved aroma route. Leave at least 12 inches around the unit for intake clearance and use a hard, level surface.

Who should shortlist Sprout?

Sprout makes sense if you want evaporative, invisible-output operation in a small bedroom, value an included sensor and night settings, and will keep up with weekly cleaning and recurring filter replacements. Its blue reservoir and sleep-focused controls are distinctive, but they are not reasons to skip the manual’s supervision and coin-cell warnings. If you want a larger maker-stated area and tank, the Levoit Superior Studio 450 offers 4.5 liters and a published 600-square-foot upper claim with fixed 50% Auto and no app; the Studio Smart 450S keeps the evaporative format and adds app-selected Auto targets. Both ask for the same wet-wick upkeep, so Sprout’s strongest case is its smaller footprint and sleep-oriented package, not lower maintenance or proven nursery safety.

Paper, software and setup details

Manufacturer noise claim

Levoit's current product page lists Sleep below 20 dB, Low below 30 dB, and High below 45 dB. The directly linked manual instead lists Sleep below 26 dB and also lists a broad 22–50 dB range; both sources list Low below 30 and High below 45, with manual test distance 4.9 ft / 1.5 m. The Sleep figures conflict and none is an independent room measurement.

Manufacturer cleaning interval

If used daily, clean the water tank at least weekly; descale the wick frame and floats about weekly or more often as water quality requires. Replace the wick around every three months and check/replace the air filter based on condition, with up to three months stated. Clean and dry before storage of a week or longer.

Water and care limits

Use tap water as Levoit permits, but hard water can require more frequent frame descaling and wick replacement. The tank and wick frame/floats may go in a dishwasher only at or below 160°F. Dry Mode helps dry the wick but does not replace cleaning. Do not add essential oils, supplemental water-treatment liquids, or third-party water filters to the tank. Keep the unit level and at least 12 in from walls for air intake. Keep the separate sensor at least 12 in from a wall/corner and away from dust for a useful room reading.
