Connected ultrasonic humidifiers

NeoClassic 450S vs 650S: tank size, app control and care

The NeoClassic 450S and 650S are both connected, cool-mist ultrasonic humidifiers, so the comparison is about the scale of the room and the amount of water you want to manage—not about choosing between two humidification technologies. The Classic 300S is a useful third option: similar connected operation, a different shape and a separate aroma-pad route.

Start with the actual difference between the NeoClassic sizes

Levoit’s U.S. pages list the 450S at 4.2 liters, up to 270 mL/h, an effective range up to 432 square feet and up to 42 hours on Sleep mode. The 650S is 6.2 liters, up to 320 mL/h, up to 536 square feet and up to 62 hours on Sleep mode. Each figure is a manufacturer statement under its own conditions, not an independent room test. A larger tank can reduce refill frequency at a given output; it does not mean the larger model will match the smaller one’s real-world runtime when both are set differently.

Both share the core control pattern: top-fill water tanks, local low/medium/high mist, an Auto setting, a humidity display, Sleep mode and a night light, with VeSync app and voice options. The app is where a buyer may get the most lasting benefit: remote settings, target humidity adjustment, schedules and scenes. If you plan to use only a fixed mist level and switch the appliance locally, the connected premium has less practical value. Pairing requires a secure 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, and the sensor reports at the unit rather than measuring a whole home.

How the Classic 300S changes the choice

The Classic 300S has a 6-liter tank, close to the 650S’s reservoir size, and it also offers top fill, Auto, app control and a humidity display. Its published tank and coverage numbers are not a like-for-like performance test against either NeoClassic. The functional distinction is the water-contact and accessory design: its manual identifies a separate aroma pad, whereas the NeoClassic 450S/650S pages and manuals describe a separate aroma chamber. None should receive oil in the water tank. The Classic 300S is worth comparing when a 6-liter reservoir and connected control are desirable but a different shape or aroma route better fits the counter and care routine.

For exact facts, read the NeoClassic 450S review, NeoClassic 650S review and Classic 300S review together. Each model's specific instructions matter more than the shared app name.

Water and cleaning are shared constraints, not a size upgrade

These three are ultrasonic units. Levoit’s NeoClassic manuals recommend purified or distilled water and warn that tap-water minerals can show up as white dust; a filter sponge should not be mistaken for a demineralizer. Both NeoClassic manuals direct daily water changes and cleaning the tank and base chamber every three days. The Classic 300S has its own daily water-change and weekly cleaning instructions, so do not transfer a NeoClassic schedule to it. All three need their base protected from water and mist aimed away from furniture and walls.

There is also a useful documentation caveat for the NeoClassic models. The current 450S page says only the detachable tray is dishwasher-safe, while the FCC-filed manual’s sequence says the tank cover, tank, mist shield and detachable sink can go in a dishwasher or be hand-washed. The 650S page specifically limits dishwasher use to the detachable tray and says the tank and silencer cover are hand-wash only; its filed manual lists more parts as dishwasher-or-hand-wash. Until Levoit clarifies the difference, use the conservative rule: dishwasher the detachable tray only and hand-wash the remaining pieces. Neither guidance permits the base chamber in a dishwasher or immersion.

Choose around room, placement and your routine

Pick the 450S if its 4.2-liter size and page-stated 432-square-foot range suit the space and you want app-selected humidity settings. Pick the 650S if you value a larger reservoir and higher published output enough to accommodate its bigger, heavier body. Pick the Classic 300S if its 6-liter format, connected controls and separate aroma-pad design fit better than the NeoClassic form. If none of the maker's coverage figures is a comfortable fit, compare the dimensions, measure the actual room, and use a separate hygrometer rather than assuming the largest number settles the question.

The 650S manual has a troubleshooting note recommending a room smaller than 505 square feet when its app reading is not changing, although the live product page says the effective range reaches 536 square feet. That is a reason to treat room-area labels cautiously, not to promise the sensor will be accurate throughout that entire range. All three are cool-mist ultrasonic humidifiers; none offers warm mist, and none removes the need to empty stale water, clean the water path and dry the appliance before storage.

Put the room and upkeep together.
