Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can you refill a bottom-fill tank if a larger stated capacity is more important than top access?
The HUL565 manual documents 1.5 gallons (5.7 L) for the combined tank and reservoir, but you must remove and turn the tank upside down to fill it. A top-fill requirement rules it out.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you want a few selectable humidity cutoffs, or a numeric display showing room humidity?
The HUL565 cycles at four approximate preset levels (40%, 50%, 60% and 70% RH) and has a humidity-reached indicator, but no current-RH numeric display. Choose a display-equipped plan if seeing a number on the appliance is essential.
Explore this need in the finder →Is a separate aroma pad enough, or do you require oil in the water tank?
The HUL565 manual allows a few drops on the dedicated oil pad outside the water path and explicitly prohibits oil or additives in the tank, base reservoir and mist outlet.
Explore this need in the finder →The Honeywell Ultra Plus HUL565 is a 1.5-gallon combined-capacity ultrasonic cool-mist humidifier with three mist levels, four approximate humidity presets and a separate aroma pad. Unlike HUL430 or HUL545 manual dials, its humidistat cycles mist around the chosen setting. It still requires inverted-tank refilling and has no numeric humidity readout or manufacturer square-foot rating.
One operating plan in two finishes
Honeywell’s page names the HUL565 series and HUL565W white; its licensed U.S. store separately lists black HUL565B and white HUL565W. Both finish listings link the same manual and show the same controls, so color is a finish choice rather than a second capability profile. Black was listed in stock and white backordered when checked. Availability can change; the white finish remains part of the reviewed family.

Preset humidity cycling, not a live humidity display
Low, medium and high settings vary mist production. Separately, the humidistat has four approximate presets—40%, 50%, 60% and 70% relative humidity. When one is selected, mist pauses at that level and resumes when humidity falls; clearing the preset restores continuous output. The green reached light is only a status cue, not a numeric room reading. Honeywell suggests a separate humidity monitor. The manual recommends 40–60% indoors and says to lower output or stop if condensation forms.
That differs from the manual-only HUL430 and HUL545, but the HUL565 still has no current-RH display, app, remote or timer. If seeing a number on the appliance matters, compare the display-equipped HUL900; its capacity claims are unresolved.
A 1.5-gallon tank still requires inversion
The manual states 1.5 U.S. gallons (5.7 liters) for tank and base reservoir combined. Refilling is bottom-fill: turn the unit off, remove and invert the tank, unscrew its cap, fill with cool water and replace cap and gasket. Honeywell says to carry it with two hands. A wide opening does not make it top-fill. If inversion is a hard no, compare the top-fill HUL588 and its separate manual.
Honeywell calls the room fit “Large” but gives no square-foot figure. Its licensed store says “typically up to 500 sq ft”; that is an attributed retailer statement, not a primary numeric rating, so it does not satisfy a hard area threshold. Dimensions also disagree: the manufacturer gives W 8.27 × H 12.87 inches, while the licensed listing says 7.9 × 7.9 × 13.1 inches. Avoid a tight shelf decision based on one figure and leave clearance for mist and tank removal.
Filter-free visible mist means water and mineral care
There is no wick to replace, but filter-free is not care-free: use fresh water daily and follow the manual’s weekly cleaning advice. Scale removal and disinfecting are separate processes; the nebulizer is fragile and the base must not be submerged. Hard water can cause white dust. Honeywell suggests distilled water or an optional Protec PDC51V2 demineralization cartridge, not included. An evaporative wick model avoids visible mist but adds filter care.
Keep oil outside the water path
The dedicated oil pad is outside the water path and passively evaporates a few drops; Honeywell says this is not a diffuser. Its manual prohibits oil, liquid inhalants and additives in the tank, base reservoir or mist outlet. If oil in the water is essential, choose a model whose exact manual allows it rather than transferring HUL530’s distinct instruction.
The outlet rotates up to 90 degrees in either direction. Honeywell claims up to 40 hours per fill; its exact licensed pages specify Low, while the manufacturer page does not name a setting. Treat that as a maximum, not a guaranteed interval. The manual lists 120 V, 60 Hz and 25 W and says to use a stable waterproof surface 12 inches from a wall and three feet from a bedside, keep the unit out of children’s and pets’ reach and not leave it unattended in a closed room.
Check the warranty and the exact finish terms
The warranty record conflicts: the manufacturer page says three-year limited coverage, while the exact manual and licensed finish listings say two years. Verify the written terms supplied with a specific unit. The white finish was backordered when checked; stock can change. No price, lab runtime, noise measurement or firsthand ownership claim is used here.
Who should shortlist the HUL565?
Shortlist the HUL565 if its 1.5-gallon combined volume, selectable approximate humidity cycling and separate oil pad fit your needs, and you can invert the tank and clean it regularly. Skip it for top-fill, numeric room coverage or humidity display, warm mist, app control, a timer or oil in the water. The HUL430/HUL545 trade automatic cutoffs for manual dials; HUL588 adds top-fill; HUL900 adds a display and timer but has its own source caveats.
Primary references: Honeywell Plugged In HUL565 product page, its HUL565-series owner manual, and the exact black and white Honeywell-licensed U.S. listings. The official product/manual endpoints challenged direct shell retrieval during research; rendered pages were inspected and the exact linked manual was archived from the Honeywell-licensed store mirror. The manufacturer page and manual/store disagree on warranty duration; dimensions also differ. The store’s 500-square-foot statement remains attributed to the retailer and is not used as a primary numeric area match.

Paper, software and setup details
Tank-light controls
The HUL565 manual documents humidity-reached and low-water indicators, not a color-changing tank light.
Manufacturer noise claim
Honeywell calls operation ultra-quiet but gives no decibel rating; no independent noise measurement is claimed.
Manufacturer cleaning interval
Fresh water daily; weekly cleaning recommended.
Water and care limits
Use fresh clean water daily; Honeywell recommends weekly cleaning. The exact HUL565-series instructions separate scale removal and disinfection, caution that the ultrasonic nebulizer is fragile and prohibit submerging the base. Hard water may leave white mineral residue; Honeywell advises distilled water or its optional Protec PDC51V2 demineralization cartridge to help reduce white dust. The cartridge is not included. Fill with cool water only after turning the tank over and removing its cap; carry the tank with two hands. Essential oils and additives must not be put in the water tank, base-water reservoir or mist outlet; a separate aroma pad is the documented oil route.
