Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Do you want to refill through a top opening without turning a separate water tank over?
The NOVA guide says to remove its lid and fill the reservoir in place; its listed tank is the base rather than a separate invert-to-fill bottle.
Explore this need in the finder →Should the humidifier stop and restart around a humidity level you choose?
The guide documents a 25–65% target; output pauses at the set level and resumes below it. At 65%, it runs continuously.
Explore this need in the finder →Is a physical remote useful for adjusting settings away from the front panel?
The exact-model manual lists an included remote and says the features can be activated from the unit or handset.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you need a manual that explicitly permits essential oils directly in the water tank?
The NOVA guide allows essential oils in the water tank; that permission is not interchangeable with medicines or unlisted additives.
Explore this need in the finder →Is a selected humidity target useful even if phone-app control is not required?
The NOVA guide documents a 25–65% target, but phone-app/network status is not documented.
Explore this need in the finder →Is heated warm mist essential?
The product page has ambiguous cool/warm wording, while the guide documents ultrasonic output without a heated-mode control; warm mist remains unconfirmed.
Explore this need in the finder →The AIRCARE NOVA is a compact ultrasonic humidifier whose strongest practical features are an integrated top-fill reservoir, a user-set humidity target, a handheld remote and a direct-to-water essential-oil route. Its 1.2-gallon capacity is larger than a small nightstand unit, while its 12.4-inch height and a claim of coverage up to 750 square feet keep it in a room-scale rather than whole-house-console category. That area and the listed 45-hour maximum runtime are manufacturer figures, not independent performance results.
Set a humidity target, then choose the mist level
The NOVA uses three numbered mist-output levels and a digital humidity setting. Its owner guide documents target choices from 25% to 65% relative humidity: the output pauses when the selected level is reached and resumes when humidity falls below it. At a 65% setting, the manufacturer says the unit runs continuously. This is more controlled than a basic three-speed dial, but does not guarantee a target reading in every room; watch for condensation.
AIRCARE also lists a coverage maximum of 750 square feet and a maximum runtime of 45 hours. The page does not provide the room construction, humidity change, or output setting used for those limits, and the manual does not turn 45 hours into a refill schedule. Treat both as upper-bound maker claims. If the space is larger or open to adjoining rooms, use a model chosen for that layout rather than assuming the largest printed number is guaranteed performance.
Refilling is simpler than moving a tank
The NOVA’s water reservoir is the body’s base rather than a separate bottle that must be lifted, inverted and screwed shut. The manual says to remove the lid and fill the reservoir in place, keeping the controls and underside dry. Its listed capacity is 1.2 U.S. gallons, or about 4.5 liters by conversion. This top opening avoids a bottom-fill carry routine, although the full unit still needs a stable, level surface and enough clearance to lift the lid.
The listed dimensions are 12.4 inches high by 9.4 wide by 10 deep. AIRCARE describes automatic shutoff at empty; the manual says an empty tank is shown by a red droplet and the unit must be restarted after refilling. For placement, its instructions say to direct fine mist away from furniture and electronics and not to set the unit under a window. A humidistat does not make those placement and moisture checks unnecessary.
Oils, mineral residue and cleaning
One real differentiator is its manufacturer-documented oil route: the NOVA manual allows essential oils to be added directly to the water tank. That is not the same as a separate aroma pad or medicine cup. Follow the exact manual’s boundary—only the allowed essential-oil use belongs in the water path; do not assume a medication, VapoSteam or another liquid is interchangeable.
Because the NOVA atomizes water ultrasonically, minerals in hard water can appear as residue around the unit. AIRCARE’s guide says not to use water softeners and suggests filtered or distilled water. It also describes regular cleaning: unplug and empty the unit, remove the mist column, clean the oscillator and reservoir with the specified vinegar-and-water steps, rinse the parts, and dry before reassembly. No dishwasher-safe component is identified in the reviewed material, so a dishwasher requirement should not be treated as met.
Remote, timer and lights
The package list in the owner guide includes a physical remote, and the manual says the main features can be operated from the controls on the humidifier or from that handset. A timer can shut the unit off after a selected period up to 12 hours. The multicolor LED light can cycle, pause on a color or be switched off; Sleep mode turns off the nightlight and panel lights without clearing the settings.
Phone-app control is not documented in the exact product information I reviewed. If app operation—or a guaranteed app-free configuration—is essential, do not infer it from the included remote.
One confusing temperature claim
The product page includes a phrase about “cool and warm mist” being safe for children, and its metadata uses similar wording. However, the linked owner guide identifies the NOVA as an ultrasonic humidifier and documents mist levels, humidity targets, light and timer controls without a separate heated-warm mode or a temperature-selection control. I would not shortlist this exact configuration for someone who requires verified heated warm mist. Its cool-mist/ultrasonic identity and the ambiguous warm-mist wording should be clarified with AIRCARE before treating it as a warm-mode choice.
Who should consider it?
The NOVA is a plausible match for someone who wants a larger-than-mini ultrasonic unit with a no-invert fill routine, a selected humidity target, a remote, an off-capable colored light, and an explicitly permitted direct-tank essential-oil option. It is a poor match if your must-haves are a confirmed heated-warm setting, a phone app, dishwasher-safe parts, a portable personal-zone design, or a documented low-noise rating. AIRCARE gives no decibel value, weight or independently tested coverage figure in the evidence reviewed here.
Compared with the Vicks VUL500, the NOVA has twice the listed water capacity and a settable humidistat, while the VUL500 is a smaller bottom-fill design with a manual mist knob. The AIRCARE MESA MU320DWAL is another ultrasonic comparison, but its exact manual documents selectable warm and cool operation and a separate aroma pad with a smaller 0.8-gallon removable tank. These are different fill and oil-use plans, not interchangeable NOVA versions.
Model evidence: AIRCARE’s NOVA product page and support-directory entry for NOVA / NU319DBLK. The product page identifies its manual resource; the AIRCARE-authored NOVA guide is document 1B73382, dated 8/2020. Coverage, capacity, dimensions and maximum runtime are manufacturer claims; no independent testing is implied.
