Honeywell warm-steam comparisons
Honeywell HWM705 vs HWM845 vs HWM445: warm-steam differences
Honeywell’s HWM705, HWM845 and HWM445 are all warm-steam designs, but that family resemblance hides the choices that affect daily use: tank access, automatic humidity control and the cup attached to the steam outlet. HWM705 is the earlier one-gallon bottom-cap model; HWM845 keeps a one-gallon manual routine but documents a different cup; HWM445 adds a larger top-fill tank and humidistat. Read the exact suffix and manual rather than treating “warm mist” or “filter-free” as a complete feature description.
HWM705: older, one gallon, two manual settings
The HWM705 Series manual explains a heating chamber that boils water and a cooling chamber that releases warm mist. The knob selects high or low, with a light for operation and a refill/reset indicator. Its tank has a cap underneath, so filling means lifting and inverting the tank. The manual says to carry it with both the upper and lower handles. There is no documented sensor, selected humidity target, app, remote or timer.
The exact black HWM705B listing is marked discontinued, despite the AccessGUDID record showing a registry status of “in commercial distribution.” Those statements address different things: a device-registry status does not confirm a seller’s stock, so HWM705 should be treated as an earlier model and any offer checked individually. HoneywellStore lists a one-gallon tank, 250-square-foot area and up to 24 hours per fill; the manual does not give those figures, and the listed runtime is not tied to a setting. Treat them as store claims, not a guarantee.
HWM705 has a medicine cup for approved liquid inhalants named in its manual. That does not establish an essential-oil route. The manual forbids putting inhalants or additives in the tank, reservoir, base or mist outlet. It also recommends weekly care and separates descaling from disinfecting; only three removable upper parts are allowed on the top rack of a dishwasher under stated conditions. The tank and base are not dishwasher-safe.
HWM845: similar refill, different cup
HWM845 is also a one-gallon, bottom-fill warm-steam plan with manual high/low control and no built-in humidistat. Its separate cup is documented at the steam chimney as an essential-oil/liquid-inhalant route, outside the tank’s water path. That is materially different from HWM705’s manual-labeled medicine cup. HWM845’s licensed store lists black HWM845B as the current-page configuration and white HWM845W as discontinued; verify finish before comparing photos or an offer.
If your room already has a safe placement and you are comfortable handling the same general bottom-cap routine, compare the manuals and included parts. HWM845 may suit someone who specifically wants the documented chimney cup; it does not solve the lift-and-invert refill task, manual humidity monitoring or hot-steam placement constraints. Don’t infer that HWM705 and HWM845 cups accept the same liquids simply because both sit near a steam outlet.
HWM445: top-fill and a five-level humidistat
HWM445 is the clearest choice of these three when avoiding an underside cap is essential. Honeywell lists 1.5 gallons, and the manual describes filling through the top. It has two output settings plus five humidistat comfort levels; the unit cycles around the selected level and provides a humidity-reached indicator. That is not the same as a numeric room-humidity display. It is more automated than HWM705 or HWM845, but it still requires monitoring the room and following a warm-steam cleaning routine.
HWM445’s manual also documents a separate steam-chimney cup, but its cup and inhalant/oil instructions are its own. The top-fill and humidistat differences are useful; they do not make it child-safe where hot steam can be reached. If a cool-mist operation is essential, compare a cool-mist or evaporative model instead of trying to solve that requirement with one of these warm-steam units.
Choose by the everyday requirement, not the series name
- Consider HWM705 only as an earlier exact-model identification or specific-offer assessment when manual high/low warm steam and bottom-cap filling work for you. The exact black HWM705B page is discontinued; verify condition, accessories and seller terms.
- Compare HWM845 if you want a similar one-gallon, manual warm-steam routine but require the separately documented steam-chimney oil cup.
- Compare HWM445 if a top-fill tank, larger listed capacity or five-level humidity cycling is more useful than a simple knob.
All three require safe positioning away from children and pets, careful handling after operation and regular mineral-scale care. The HWM705 manual calls for at least 12 inches from a wall and four feet from a bedside; check the other exact manual for its own instructions. An FDA MAUDE record involving HWM705B is a consumer report, not a finding of defect or causality, but it underscores why the model’s hot-steam warning is not a minor footnote. If the only place available is within a child’s reach, rule out warm steam and choose a different technology.
Read the HWM705 assessment, HWM845 assessment and HWM445 assessment for each model’s exact manual and fit. For an older HWM705 offer, inspect the model label and supplied parts before deciding.
