Honeywell ultrasonic ownership

Honeywell HUL570 vs HUL585 vs HUL588: refills, controls and care

Honeywell’s HUL570, HUL585 and HUL588 are all top-fill ultrasonic cool-mist humidifiers around the same 1.25-gallon tank scale, but they solve different ownership problems. The HUL570’s strongest distinction is its manual-specified dishwasher-safe component group; the HUL585 adds a separate aroma pad while retaining a manual dial; and the HUL588 adds electronic humidity control. For a specific HUL570 offer, lifecycle matters: its black and white pages are marked discontinued, so it is most useful as an existing-unit reference rather than a default buy.

Choose by the task you want to make easier

Refill access: The HUL570 manual allows a pitcher pour with the tank in place or a sink refill after removing the tank. Carry a full one with two hands and support the base. HUL585 and HUL588 are also top-fill models, but their different control and care stories matter more than the shared top-fill label. If the essential need is filling without turning an inverted bottle over, all three have evidence for top-fill; this answer alone does not make their operating plans interchangeable.

Humidity control: The HUL570 and HUL585 use a manual output dial. You monitor humidity separately and change the knob yourself; an empty-tank shutoff is not a room sensor. The HUL588 is the choice among these three when a humidity-sensing control plan is essential: its electronic system can be set to a humidity target and stop/restart around the selected level. That feature changes the buying decision more than any small difference in tank handling. It also adds electronics, and you still have to clean the water-contact parts.

Cleaning style: The HUL570 manual names four top-rack dishwasher-safe pieces: the Mist Outlet, Outlet Cover, Mist Chamber and Tank Cover. It does not include the tank or powered base in that list. HUL585 and HUL588 do not document dishwasher-safe parts in their shared manual, which instead directs hand cleaning of the tank, base, reservoir and nebulizer. If dishwasher-safe removable pieces are a hard requirement, the HUL570’s exact four-piece allowance matters; it does not authorize dishwashing every component or submerging a base.

How the three plans differ

  • HUL570: Removable top-fill tank, 180-degree mist outlet, manual dial, 1.25-gallon capacity, low-water shutoff and four specified top-rack dishwasher-safe parts. It has no documented RH target, app, timer or separate oil pad. Its medium/medium-to-large room wording and runtime claims are not precise enough to support an exact area or low-setting interval. The licensed black and white offers are discontinued; include it only when checking a particular earlier unit or offer.
  • HUL585: Top-fill, 1.25-gallon ultrasonic operation with a manual knob, a separate passive aroma pad and a directional outlet. Its manual calls for hand cleaning and does not give it a selected humidity target. It is the better match of these three if a distinct pad is a documented need and manual output is acceptable.
  • HUL588: Top-fill ultrasonic operation at the same 1.25-gallon scale, but with electronic controls and automatic humidity response. Its shared HUL585/HUL588 manual separates its electronic plan from the HUL585’s dial. This is the comparison to make when humidity-target behavior matters; it does not inherit the HUL570 dishwasher allowance or the HUL585 pad by association.

Minerals, monitoring and claims to treat cautiously

All three are ultrasonic rather than wick-fed evaporative units. Honeywell warns that dissolved minerals in hard water can leave white residue, and the manuals emphasize regular care. The HUL570 pages mention an HDC500 demineralization cartridge; the exact licensed black and white listings say one is included, but the shared manual says some packages include one. Its presence in an older or used unit should be checked. The HUL585/HUL588 manual also recommends careful nebulizer cleaning and a separate humidity monitor for the manual HUL585 plan. No model should be treated as hands-off simply because it has low-water shutdown or an optional cartridge.

The HUL570’s official product page calls the room size medium and gives an unqualified “up to 36 hours”; its licensed listing says medium-to-large, repeats the 36-hour headline and separately lists 24 hours on low. The store marks the item discontinued, while AccessGUDID search results still show its black and white variants in commercial distribution. This is a useful reminder to separate an official registry status from actual retail availability and to preserve conflicts instead of choosing a convenient claim. Neither a broad room label nor a maximum-runtime headline guarantees performance in a particular room.

Let the essential answer decide

If the questionnaire says top-fill, ultrasonic mist and a manual dial, all three models may fit that basic description, subject to the earlier-model choice for HUL570. Add “dishwasher-safe removable parts” and the HUL570 has a distinct documented advantage, but only for its four named pieces. Add “separate aroma pad” and HUL585 is the relevant plan; the HUL570’s oil route is unknown, not a confirmed no-oil configuration. Add automatic RH response and HUL588 becomes the meaningful alternative; HUL570 and HUL585 should drop out rather than be treated as close enough. Add a precise room-area minimum or a confirmed HUL570 low-setting runtime and the HUL570 cannot satisfy that threshold from its published evidence.

For exact tradeoffs and care steps, read the HUL570 review, the HUL585 review and the HUL588 review. Before buying or reusing an HUL570, check its label, condition, included cartridge, return terms and current safety information; the online licensed-store variants are marked discontinued.
