A useful fit for

A household wanting one larger-tank ultrasonic model that can run warm or cool mist, use a chosen 40–60% humidity cutoff, and sense conditions at an included remote; it suits buyers willing to invert a bottom-fill tank and regularly hand-clean a non-dishwasher-safe base and reservoir.

The main tradeoff

The 1.75-gallon tank and 900-sq-ft ceiling are larger than the Votiv 7's published 0.55-gallon/500-sq-ft figures, but that comparison is between manufacturer claims rather than room tests. UH200's warm option, sensor-based Auto mode and remote add controls but also mean a heated base that needs a 15-minute cool-down and more cleaning steps. Its Auto target mode cannot be combined with Continuous output, top filling is not documented, and the manual says not to use mineral cartridges despite a related cartridge product shown on the page.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Is a selectable warm-mist option worth the heated base and its cool-down step?

The exact guide lets you turn Warm Mist on or leave it off; after warm operation, wait 15 minutes because the water in the base is hot.

Do you want a physical remote and sensor-based Auto target?

The included RF remote senses humidity where it is located, and Auto uses a selected 40–60% target; the model is not documented with app control.

Can you invert a bottom-fill tank in exchange for a 1.75-gallon reserve?

The 1.75-gallon single tank must be lifted out, turned over and filled through its underside cap; it is not documented as top-fill.

The Vornado UH200 is a whole-room ultrasonic humidifier with one 1.75-gallon tank, selectable warm or cool mist, a humidity-sensing remote, and a 40–60% humidity target. It is worth considering if you want that mix of capacity and control. The compromises are specific: the tank must be turned over to fill, warm operation heats the water in the base, and both the tank and base need hands-on cleaning.

Warm and cool operation are options, not two separate machines

The UH200 uses an ultrasonic transducer to produce mist, while its fan circulates the humidified air. The Warm Mist control is a selectable feature; it can be left off for cool mist or activated when you want the warm setting. That flexibility matters more than a headline label if your preference changes seasonally. It does not make the unit a steam humidifier, and no health or symptom outcome is promised here.

Warm operation has a clear handling consequence. Vornado's guide cautions that water in the base becomes hot and says to wait 15 minutes for it to cool before handling the humidifier. That step is easy to overlook when cleaning or moving the unit. If you want a warm-mist option but rarely plan to use it, ask whether that added hot-water caution and cleaning routine are worth keeping in the appliance. If you only want a simple cold-mist unit, the Vornado Votiv 7 has manual cool-mist levels and a smaller bottom-fill tank; it is not a feature-equivalent substitute for the UH200's sensor or warm mode.

The 1.75-gallon tank is substantial but not top-fill

There is one removable tank, not a pair of smaller reservoirs. For a refill you unplug the humidifier, lift the tank vertically from the base, turn it over, unscrew the bottom cap, fill with cool tap water, check its gasket and replace the cap. You then lower it into the base. The manual specifically warns against pouring water through the top air grille or mist nozzle. If lifting or inverting a full tank is a problem, capacity alone is not a good fit; top-fill Vornado MISTIC models are more convenient to pour into, but they are cool-mist configurations rather than this warm-or-cool model.

Vornado lists up to 900 square feet and four gallons per day. Its guide gives the four-gallon rating for High fan with Warm Mist running continuously for 24 hours at 70°F and 30% relative humidity; the product page states the daily figure without those conditions. Treat both as maker claims, not a room test or a prediction that the tank lasts a day. The manual says continuous operation may require a refill every day. The area ceiling also cannot tell you how evenly moisture will reach rooms separated by doors or halls. Measure the area you actually need, start with a conservative humidity target, and lower it or stop if moisture forms on walls or windows.

Auto and Continuous answer different questions

The digital controls allow a 40–60% relative-humidity target or a separate Continuous setting. In Auto, the unit varies fan speed and mist output as it works toward the chosen target, then turns off at the set point. Fan choices are High, Low and Auto; the guide says Continuous permits High or Low and disables Auto. These are not interchangeable names for one mode: choose whether you want target cycling or uninterrupted output before you set a control preference.

An included RF remote has a humidity sensor at the remote's location and can show that reading. Its placement therefore matters: if it sits somewhere that does not represent the area you care about, the measurement may not guide the rest of the room well. The panel and remote also display current humidity, while the selected target remains a setting rather than an independent guarantee of room conditions. The remote is a physical RF handset, not evidence of app control; the exact page and guide do not document phone or network settings. The eight-hour timer, dimming display and control lock add practical conveniences.

Cleaning and the mineral-cartridge mismatch matter

Vornado recommends a thorough cleaning several times during the season, or when algae, mineral deposits or particles appear. The guide warns that water left in the base while the switched-off unit sits for eight hours or longer may allow algae or bacteria to grow. The tank and base are not dishwasher-safe, the powered top should not be submerged, and the included brush is used for the base's narrow water-trough areas. If hard water leaves white residue, troubleshooting suggests distilled water. There is no approved aroma route: the guide prohibits fragrance and water-treatment additives.

One parts detail deserves special care. The UH200 page shows the MD1-0018 mineral cartridge in its related-product area, but the exact owner guide says this model is not for use with mineral cartridges. Vornado's cartridge page names UH100, Ultra1, Ultra2 and Ultra3, not UH200, as compatible. Do not buy or fit that cartridge based only on the related listing. The warranty details are described as five years on the UH200 page and in its guide; read Vornado's terms for the exact purchase and use conditions.

Who should shortlist it?

The UH200 fits a buyer who wants a larger reservoir than the small Votiv models, a remote-positioned humidity sensor, selectable 40–60% Auto control, an eight-hour timer and the choice between warm and cool mist. It is less suitable if top-fill access, documented app control, a dishwasher-safe base or an approved fragrance route is essential. The EVDC500 is a different Vornado path if wick-fed evaporation is preferred, but it uses bottom-fill tanks and replaceable wicks rather than ultrasonic mist. The MISTIC 6 or 8 offers a top-fill ultrasonic alternative without the UH200's warm-mist mode. Compare the exact control and fill routine—not just coverage numbers—before choosing.

Model evidence: the UH200 U.S. product page, its exact Owner's Guide, and Vornado's MD1-0018 compatibility page. Area, output, weight, dimensions and power figures are maker-listed specifications, not independent measurements.

Paper, software and setup details

Manufacturer cleaning interval

Thoroughly clean several times during the season or when algae, mineral deposits or particles appear. Empty and clean the base if the turned-off unit will sit with water for eight hours or longer. The base and tank are not dishwasher-safe; do not submerge the top. Use the included base brush for residue and dry the coupler area before use. Distilled water is suggested by the troubleshooting guide if hard water leaves white dust.

Water and care limits

The manual prohibits fragrance and water-treatment additives and separately says the model is not for mineral cartridges. The UH200 page's related-products area displays MD1-0018, but that cartridge page lists UH100/Ultra1/Ultra2/Ultra3 rather than UH200, and the exact UH200 guide says not to use a mineral cartridge. Do not treat the related listing as compatibility evidence. The base can be hot after Warm Mist; wait 15 minutes before handling.
