Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Is an 8 L top-fill tank the capacity you want to handle?
The official MISTIC 8 guide identifies an 8 L tank and allows top filling; its larger tank reduces refill frequency only at the cost of more water to carry when removed.
Explore this need in the finder →Would you consider the larger MISTIC 8 if the conflicting coverage figure is not a deciding requirement?
Vornado’s page says 700 square feet in the description and 750 elsewhere. We leave numeric coverage unknown; do not select the model to meet a strict minimum-area threshold.
Do you need the Auto target to exceed 60% RH?
The exact MISTIC 8 manual documents selectable targets from 30% to 60%; a higher target ceiling is not supported.
Explore this need in the finder →Is warm mist essential, in addition to its large tank and Auto control?
The manual supports both warm and cool mist and warns that warm mist and its heating element can be hot; allow the unit to cool before disassembly.
Explore this need in the finder →The Vornado MISTIC 8 pairs this line’s largest reservoir with warm-or-cool ultrasonic mist, a 30–60% Auto target and a timer. The 8-liter top-fill tank and up-to-90-hour low-setting claim are the clear differences from the MISTIC 6. Its room-area claim, however, conflicts within the maker’s own page, so do not buy it to meet a numeric coverage threshold.
More stored water, more to lift
The MISTIC 8’s exact guide names an 8-liter reservoir and lets you pour through the top opening or remove the tank for filling. Vornado’s page says it can run up to 90 hours on low. That is a manufacturer runtime claim at its lowest setting—not an independently tested expectation at medium, high or warm output. A larger tank can reduce the number of refills, but a completely filled 8-liter reservoir is also more water to carry than the MISTIC 6’s 6 liters or the MISTIC 4’s 4 liters.
The published physical dimensions are 13.44 inches deep by 6.29 wide by 16.21 high. Plan for removal and refill space beyond the cabinet measurements and keep the air intake unobstructed. The owner guide says not to aim mist directly at objects or plants and to reduce or stop output when moisture appears on walls or windows. The product label “whole room” does not establish uniform performance through a closed doorway or in every ceiling and climate condition.
Do not treat the area figure as settled
Vornado’s exact page makes different claims in different places. The main description says up to 700 square feet, while the key-feature list and the comparison block say up to 750 square feet. Output wording also varies: the description says over three gallons per day and the specification list says three gallons. The model guide confirms tank, controls, warmth, Auto behavior and care, but it does not resolve these internal website differences.
For that reason we do not feed either area number or either output number into a minimum-coverage recommendation. If your decision depends on an official minimum of at least 650 or 700 square feet, this model’s published disagreement is a limitation rather than a reason to select the most generous figure. Choose based on other confirmed needs or ask Vornado to clarify the current specification for the exact product. This review does not claim that either number is a room guarantee.
Its control set matches the MISTIC 6
The digital touch panel has three manual output levels, an Auto mode that adjusts mist to a user-selected 30–60% target, warm/cool selection, a one-to-twelve-hour timer and Night Mode. The manual’s indicator colors—orange below 30%, blue from 30% to 60%, purple above 60%—report the humidity band; they are not the MISTIC 4’s independent two-color ambient lighting. Night Mode turns the lights off. The documentation does not show a phone app or separate remote.
Warm mist is the optional heated mode, not a free upgrade without consequences. The guide warns the mist may be hot and says the water and element will be hot after use; let the unit cool before disassembly. Keep exposed skin away from the outlet. If you have no need for warm mist, a cool-only model avoids this heater-specific caution, though it does not remove the need to clean and manage room humidity.
Oil and mineral care are separate jobs
The MISTIC 8 has a scent-ready pad drawer and includes two pads. The guide says put a few drops of essential oil on the pad only. Oil must not go into the tank or elsewhere on the appliance; the scent may be subtle and cannot be adjusted. Its preinstalled mineral absorption pad is meant to help reduce mineral buildup, and the manual says to replace it when deposits become noticeable. The interval depends on water quality and frequency of use, so it is a continuing part of the operating cost and attention even though we do not quote a price.
The guide also shows a removable cleanable filter, which is not a replaceable evaporative wick. It recommends thorough cleaning several times through the season, when algae or mineral deposits appear, or if water stays in the base for eight hours or more before the next use. Clean tank and filter with cool water and mild detergent, never submerge the powered base and do not put the unit in a dishwasher. Use distilled water if hard-water residue becomes a problem.
When the 8 is a better fit than the 6 or 4
Compared with the MISTIC 6, the 8 gives you two more liters and a longer lowest-setting runtime claim, while sharing the documented 30–60% target range, timer and warm/cool options. The MISTIC 6 has the less-conflicted 700-square-foot listing. Compared with MISTIC 4, the 8 adds Auto, a timer and heat but trades the smaller tank, lockable control panel and two-color ambient light for a tall digital model with colored humidity-status indicators.
Choose MISTIC 8 if a large top-fill tank and target control matter more than convenient carrying, and if the ambiguous coverage claim does not decide your purchase. Prefer MISTIC 6 for a smaller reservoir and a consistent 700-square-foot statement, or MISTIC 4 for cool-only manual control and its light. A minimum room-area requirement above 400 square feet must not treat the MISTIC 8 as confirmed until Vornado reconciles the page; our matcher likewise leaves its numeric coverage unknown.
Model evidence: Vornado’s MISTIC 8 U.S. product page and exact MISTIC 8 Use & Care Guide. The page’s 700/750-square-foot and 3/over-3-gallon wording conflicts are retained rather than resolved by choosing the more favorable number.

Paper, software and setup details
Manufacturer cleaning interval
Thorough cleaning several times during the season and when algae/minerals appear or water has sat in the base for 8 hours or more; replace mineral pad when buildup is noticeable.
Water and care limits
The tank and removable filter are cleaned with cool water and mild detergent. The base is not immersible, the whole product is not dishwasher-safe, and the warm-mist heater/water must cool before disassembly. Use distilled water if hard water leaves white dust. The separate scent pad is the only essential-oil route; no tank oils. The mineral absorption pad is a replaceable Vornado part, replaced when noticeable buildup depends on water and usage. The official product page conflicts: some locations say up to 700 sq ft, others up to 750; output is also described as over 3 gallons/day and as 3 gallons. Area/output thresholds are therefore unknown, not buyer guarantees.
