Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Would a one-gallon tank meet your minimum volume without moving to the taller 1.5-gallon version?
The exact Lucerna 2 specification and family manual list one gallon; its published liter equivalent is approximately 3.785 L.
Explore this need in the finder →Does this model have a separate light with brightness and off settings?
Its exact family guide documents Illumination levels of 100%, 50%, 25% and Off independently of humidification.
Explore this need in the finder →Can you live with the bottom-fill turn-over routine?
The guide says to lift the Lucerna tank, invert it and fill through its underside cap; it is not top-fill.

Lucerna 2 documents manual Low and High mist only, and no humidity target or room-RH sensing feature.

Vornado’s shared Lucerna guide forbids fragrance and all other tank additives and lists no aroma pad.
Explore this need in the finder →Lucerna 2 is the middle-sized Alchemy humidifier, with a one-gallon tank between Lucerna 1’s half gallon and Lucerna 3’s gallon and a half. It keeps the family’s sculptural illuminated tank, two manually selected cool-mist levels, and bottom-fill routine. That makes capacity—not smart control or a different cleaning system—the reason to step up.
The family midpoint, with a larger footprint
The official page describes a one-gallon ultrasonic humidifier and lists up to 24 hours on Low or 12 hours on High. Vornado’s specification table gives 7.3 inches by 7.3 inches by 15.25 inches (depth by width by height), 3.06 pounds empty, and up to 500 square feet. For a shopper comparing the Lucerna trio, the practical gain over the Lucerna 1 is twice the water reserve; the costs are a wider base, more height, and a heavier empty machine. Lucerna 3’s 1.5-gallon reservoir is still larger, while the half-gallon Lucerna 1 is easier to fit on a tighter surface.
Do not read “500 square feet” as a room-performance guarantee. It is Vornado’s maximum area claim, not a measurement in your floor plan. Air movement between rooms, ceilings, heating, and ventilation can all make a single area number a poor predictor. The owner’s guide says to reduce mist or turn the humidifier off if walls or windows collect moisture, and not to run it when relative humidity is above 60%. A separate hygrometer is the sensible way to check the room because Lucerna 2 has no documented humidity display or selectable target.
Manual operation is the entire humidification control story
The base has touch controls for power, humidification, and illumination. Humidification cycles between Low, High, and Off. Low is described for smaller rooms or nighttime operation; High is for faster humidification in larger rooms. There is no page or manual evidence for automatic RH sensing, a percentage setpoint, a timer, remote, or app. If “maintain 45%” or scheduled start/stop is essential, do not assume the larger water tank supplies that capability.
The ambient light can run independently from misting. Its dedicated control cycles through 100%, 50%, 25%, and off. The tank’s ribs refract that light, but the manual documents brightness rather than a color-changing sequence. At low water, the humidification and fans stop; pressing the humidification control makes the light pulse three times to indicate refill. I treat that as a simple status signal, not a room-humidity indicator. These specifics matter in the questionnaire: Lucerna 2 fits a three-stage dimmable-light preference, but not a color-changing-light or automatic-control request.
Capacity does not make it top-fill
The shared guide says not to fill through the top mist outlet. Instead, unplug the machine, lift the tank off by its upper handle, turn it over, unscrew the underside cap, fill with cool tap water, secure the cap, then set the tank back into the base. This is the same routine as Lucerna 1 and 3. A full one-gallon reservoir is a larger lift than Lucerna 1’s, so a buyer who wants to avoid carrying the tank should compare refill access before focusing on runtime claims. Vornado’s MISTIC 4, for example, is a separate top-fill model, but is not a Lucerna-style tower.
Follow the additive and cleaning warnings
Vornado recommends distilled water when hard water leaves white dust or mineral buildup. It explicitly says the Lucerna guide is not for mineral cartridges or any additives—including aroma fragrances and water conditioners—because these may crack the humidifier’s plastic and affect performance; the guide says additive use voids the warranty. No scent-pad or oil route is documented. Ambient illumination is not permission to add aroma products to the tank.
For care, empty the tank after each use. If water remains in the tank for more than eight hours, the guide calls for cleaning and disinfecting. It says to wash the tank with cool water and mild detergent and to clean the base with equal parts vinegar and water, leaving the solution for 20 minutes before wiping. The base must not be submerged or rinsed, and the product is not dishwasher-safe. The manufacturer recommends cleaning several times during the season, more often when deposits, algae, or other particles appear. The five-year warranty is listed by Vornado; read the terms for the specific purchase.
When does Lucerna 2 make sense?
Lucerna 2 is the natural family choice when a half-gallon feels too small but the taller, broader 1.5-gallon Lucerna 3 is more than you want to place or carry. Its advertised 500-square-foot ceiling is also between the 1’s 300 and the 3’s 600, but all three area figures are maker claims. It is not a better pick solely because a room is near the stated maximum, and its one-gallon size does not prove a particular refill interval.
If a buyer’s priorities are a humidity target, warm mist, app, top-fill, dishwasher-safe care, or a maker-approved scent route, the Lucerna 2 does not meet those needs. It suits a simpler question: do you want a one-gallon, two-level ultrasonic humidifier with independent dimmable ambient light, and can you keep up with bottom filling and hand cleaning? If not, compare a model whose exact instructions document the missing function rather than inferring it from the Lucerna design.

Paper, software and setup details
Tank-light controls
Ambient illumination is independently controlled at 100%, 50%, 25% and Off. The exact manual does not document a color-changing mode.
Manufacturer cleaning interval
Empty the tank after use. If water remains in the tank for 8 hours or more, thoroughly clean and disinfect as directed. Wash the tank with cool water and mild detergent. Clean the base with equal parts vinegar and water, let stand 20 minutes, then wipe; do not submerge or rinse the base. The manual says the product is not dishwasher-safe and recommends thorough seasonal cleaning and additional cleaning when algae, mineral deposits or particles appear.
Water and care limits
For hard or mineral-heavy water, Vornado recommends distilled water to help reduce white dust and mineral buildup. The exact shared guide forbids mineral cartridges and all additives, including aroma fragrances and water conditioners.
