Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Do you need the documented warm setting to reach a listed 500 mL/h maximum?
DWHM03's U.S. manual rates up to 500 mL/h warm and 300 mL/h cool. These are maker output ratings, not a promise of a room humidity increase; warm operation has heat and 280 W power considerations.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you want a user-selectable humidity target rather than only a fixed preset?
The manual documents on-device Auto targets from 30% to 80% in 5-point steps. It does not document an app workflow for this standard configuration.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you need fragrance through a dedicated pad rather than oil in the water?
Dreo documents an aroma-pad tray and expressly says not to add oil to the tank. The tray is a light fragrance route, not a dedicated diffuser.
Explore this need in the finder →The standard Dreo 813 is the DWHM03 configuration, not the separately listed 813S. Its U.S. manual describes a 6-liter top-fill humidifier with cool and heated warm mist, an adjustable Auto target and an on-device timer. That is a broader control set than a simple dial model, but it comes with a placement rule that changes where the appliance can live: Dreo says to place it 60 cm above the floor and 30 cm from walls or wooden furniture.
What the standard 813 is built to do
Dreo's DWHM03 manual gives a 6 L tank and maximum output ratings of 300 mL/h for cool mist and 500 mL/h for warm mist. Those are the maker's figures, not an independent test of room performance. Warm mode is the more demanding choice electrically: the same specification table rates cool operation at 26 W and warm at 280 W. The guide also warns that warm mist can be hot and lists three warm temperature settings. If you need only visible cool mist, the extra heater adds heat, power use and a safety step without helping your essential requirements.
The manual describes a top access arrangement: lift the cover, remove the tank for its first cleaning and filling, then return the tank and cover. It is not the upside-down cap refill routine some smaller reservoirs use. A humidity display, Auto control, three mist levels, sleep mode and a 0–12 hour timer are handled on the unit. In Auto, Dreo lets you choose a 30%–80% target in 5-point increments; the humidifier adjusts output toward that setting. A connected-app feature is not established for this standard model, so do not select it on the assumption that it behaves like the 813S.
Placement and care are part of the purchase decision
The manual's two-foot elevation instruction is unusually important. This is not simply a tower you can put on the floor beside a bed. It needs a firm, level, water-resistant surface 60 cm above the floor with 30 cm of clearance from a wall or wooden furniture, and the mist should point away from furniture and electronics. A table high enough to meet that direction must also support a full 6-liter tank and remain stable. If you cannot provide that space, the model is a poor fit even if the tank and controls look appealing.
Plan on hands-on cleaning. Dreo recommends purified or distilled water to limit white residue; its manual warns not to put essential oil into the water tank. Scent belongs on the removable aroma pad only, and Dreo cautions that the scent is soft and not adjustable like a dedicated diffuser. The manual calls for monthly descaling and weekly cleaning of the aroma-pad tray. It illustrates cleaning the tank, water filter, mist tube and base but does not give a calendar interval for the ordinary tank rinse in the pages inspected. Do not turn the diagrams into a claim that maintenance is rare.
The support directory identifies the reviewed white-case, blue-tinted-tank variant as Standard Humidifier 813 / DWHM03. It separately lists a black variant image whose display appears to include a Wi-Fi icon; the DWHM03 manual inspected here does not describe network setup, so that image is not treated as proof of a matching black configuration. The standard manual names no room rating more precise than a troubleshooting note that performance may be lower above a broad 215–430-square-foot range. That interval is not a clear room-size ceiling, and the review does not treat it as one. Height, runtime and exact mist-generation technology are also not established by this model-specific manual.
How it compares with the 813S and other Dreo choices
Do not treat the standard 813 and 813S as colors of one product. The 813S is a separate smart configuration with connected features in its own reviewed record; its product-page capacity and room claims also have inconsistencies, so compare the sources and controls rather than assuming the suffix only adds Wi-Fi. The standard DWHM03 is more clearly documented for its 6 L tank, 300/500 mL/h output ratings, 30%–80% local target and 0–12 h timer. The HM524 is a useful alternative if you want a standard cool-mist-only Dreo without a warm heater; the 713S is another dual-mist model if you want app-connected control. Check exact model names because support pages group several 713/813 identities together.
This is an earlier configuration worth identifying for an existing unit or a specific offer, not a default current recommendation. The Dreo U.S. collection lists an 813S but not the Standard 813/DWHM03. If you are comparing a lingering or second-hand listing, match the nameplate to DWHM03 and look for the manual and parts that belong to that exact configuration. Choose it when the adjustable local target, larger tank and choice of heated mist solve real needs and you have the elevated placement plus cleaning routine; skip it if you need a confirmed app workflow, a precise room-area guarantee or a floor-level placement.

Paper, software and setup details
Manufacturer cleaning interval
Descale once a month and clean the separate aroma-pad tray weekly; the manual's routine cleaning steps do not specify a calendar interval.
Water and care limits
Manual recommends purified or distilled water to reduce white residue, prohibits oil in the tank, and instructs cleaning the tank, water filter and base. Place on a firm level water-resistant surface 60 cm above the floor and 30 cm from walls/wooden furniture; aim mist away from furniture and electrical equipment. Warm output may be hot. Follow the exact manual's cleaning and cool-down precautions.
