Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Do you need digital buttons and a humidity display rather than rotary controls?
The exact 831000 page identifies digital controls and display; the combined owner manual identifies digital model 831000.
Explore this need in the finder →Would an adjustable humidity target be more useful than a fixed fan setting?
AIRCARE says the cord humidistat senses room humidity and can stop/restart at the chosen 25–65% target; at 65% it runs continuously.
Explore this need in the finder →Is front-grille pour-in top-fill without a removable bottle tank the refill routine you want?
AIRCARE calls the 831000 top-fill; its product FAQ directs water through a removable front grille into the cabinet, not a lift-out tank.
Explore this need in the finder →Is a reservoir of at least 22 liters useful for reducing how often you carry water?
The product page lists six gallons; 22.7 liters is a conversion, and the cabinet remains a floor appliance.
Explore this need in the finder →Would the maker’s upper 2,700-square-foot area figure suit your comparison, without treating it as a room guarantee?
The exact current product page lists coverage up to 2,700 sq ft; room layout and conditions still matter.
Explore this need in the finder →Do you prefer local controls and no documented remote or phone app?
The exact manufacturer page and included-parts manual document an on-device digital panel; no handset, app or network control is listed.
Explore this need in the finder →The AIRCARE SPACE SAVER 831000 is a large, wheeled evaporative humidifier for buyers who prefer to pour water into a cabinet rather than lift a full bottle tank. Its six-gallon capacity, three fan speeds and digital humidity controls make it a different proposition from a bedroom mist tower: it is a floor appliance whose refill and wick care are part of everyday ownership. The digital model is the better fit when buttons and a readout matter; the related 836000HB uses knobs instead.

A six-gallon cabinet instead of a carry tank
AIRCARE lists one six-gallon reservoir and describes this version as top-fill. The exact product instructions explain the practical meaning: water is poured through a grille at the front into the cabinet, with no separate bottle to turn over or carry back from a sink. That can make a large refill easier to manage, but it is not a small jug you can remove and take to a faucet. Plan for access to the fill opening, the water source you will carry or pour from, and enough room to get around the appliance. The grille is removable to see the fill line. AIRCARE says to unplug before filling and warns against spilling water on the fan and controls.
The cabinet ships with a wick and frame, float assembly and four casters that need to be fitted during setup. The casters are useful for moving the cabinet across a level floor once filled, but they do not make it a light portable humidifier. This is still a corded machine for a deliberate floor location.
Digital setpoint control is the useful distinction
The 831000 has on-device buttons and a digital display. Its humidistat reads room humidity from the sensor on the power cord; the manual gives a selectable target range of 25% to 65%. The fan stops at the selected target and starts again when humidity falls. At 65%, the unit runs continuously instead of cycling off at that setting. There are three fan speeds, shown as F1 through F3. AIRCARE instructs users to leave the cord sensor clear of the wall, with the unit at least two inches from an interior wall.
This is local control, not a smart-home feature. AIRCARE lists the digital panel; the exact package and manual do not document a handset or phone app. If a remote is essential, look elsewhere. High fan speeds are also not quiet by design: AIRCARE's manual says the stronger output is louder and compares it to a box fan. The mist itself is not visible because an evaporative wick feeds a fan; someone expecting a visible ultrasonic plume should choose another technology.
Treat the room-size and runtime numbers as upper claims
AIRCARE lists coverage up to 2,700 square feet, a maximum runtime up to 70 hours, and dimensions of 22.5 inches high by 12.5 inches wide by 17.5 inches deep. Six gallons converts to about 22.7 liters. These are manufacturer specifications, not a measurement of how evenly humidity will spread through your home. Open floor plans, closed doors, ceiling height and air leakage all affect results. The up-to runtime does not identify a fan speed, target or test condition, so it is not a promise of three days between refills. This model is most compelling where a large reservoir and a central placement are more useful than a slim cabinet.
For a multi-level home, AIRCARE's placement guidance says to use the lower floor and a central room; a position near a cold-air return may help move humidity through the home. Do not place it under a window, and leave clearance for its cord and casters. An area claim this broad should not replace watching the actual room humidity. A stand-alone hygrometer can help you judge whether the target is being reached in the places that matter.
Plan for a replaceable wick and regular cleaning
The included 1043 SuperWick is a consumable, not a washable permanent filter. AIRCARE recommends replacement about every 60 to 90 days, with the water's mineral content affecting the interval. The digital manual also displays a check-filter reminder after 720 operating hours; that is a prompt to inspect the wick, not an automatic replacement guarantee. The maker's guide warns against washing the paper wick. Budget both the time and recurring part cost before choosing an evaporative model.
Cleaning is hands-on: unplug, remove the fan assembly and wick, empty the cabinet, clean as directed, rinse and dry before reassembly. The manual's cleaning instructions describe a vinegar soak and a separate bleach disinfection option; never mix those chemicals. Essential oils are not permitted in the Space Saver water path. The manual does not certify the cabinet or removable components as dishwasher-safe, so a dishwasher requirement should rule this model out rather than rely on an assumption.
Who should choose the 831000?
Choose it when a large stationary reservoir, casters, adjustable humidity target and digital controls form a useful combination, and you can accommodate a 22.5-inch-tall cabinet. It is a poor fit if you need a small personal-zone humidifier, a removable tank you can carry to a sink, warm mist, a remote or app, quiet bedroom operation at high output, or maintenance-free ownership. The 836000HB shares the six-gallon evaporative platform and humidity response but substitutes rotary controls and a somewhat different size and maker-area claim. AIRCARE's PEDESTAL is another large evaporative comparison if a slimmer wheeled form matters; compare its listed capacity and fan speeds rather than assuming area claims translate directly. The right choice depends on refill routine, interface and room layout—not the biggest square-foot number.

Paper, software and setup details
Manufacturer noise claim
AIRCARE manual says higher fan speeds are louder and compares output sound to a box fan; no decibel measurement is supplied.
Manufacturer cleaning interval
AIRCARE recommends changing the paper 1043 wick about every 60–90 days, adjusted for the mineral content of the water. The digital reminder calls for wick inspection after 720 operating hours. The maker does not state a fixed calendar cleaning interval.
Water and care limits
Unplug before filling, moving or cleaning; keep water off the fan/control assembly. Manual describes draining and hand-cleaning the cabinet, rinsing and drying, and separate vinegar and bleach disinfection options; never mix them. Do not wash the paper wick or add essential oils.
