A useful fit for

A fit for a household that wants evaporative wick humidification, a large pour-in base and three digital humidity presets, without app, remote or timer features.

The main tradeoff

The 25%, 45% and 65% presets do not offer an arbitrary target or numeric readout; choose the analog CM330AWHT for a variable range. Both need a wick and hand cleaning.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Is wick-fed evaporative operation essential?

The exact page and family guide identify a fan-driven SGL1040 wick evaporative plan; it produces invisible moist air rather than an ultrasonic mist plume.

Do you prefer the button-operated humidity presets?

On-device buttons cycle three fan speeds and Low/Medium/High humidity settings; the exact family manual specifies 25%, 45% and 65% set points, with indicator lights and no numeric RH display.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can you accept an integrated pour-in base rather than an inverted bottle?

The manual fills the 1.6-gallon base through the sloped front grille and gives a low-water/fill indicator.

Would the maker-stated upper coverage figure suit your comparison?

The manual says up to 1,000 sq ft under tight construction with a stated test basis; room performance is not guaranteed.

Are you prepared to replace and clean an evaporative wick?

The exact guide specifies an SGL1040 wick and recommends replacement every 30–60 days of operation and more frequently in hard water.

The AIRCARE Companion CM330DWHT is the digital-control member of a 1.6-gallon evaporative humidifier family. Its digital panel is buttons and indicator lights—not a numeric humidity display—and the exact manual documents three humidity set points: 25%, 45% and 65%. It shares the Companion’s pour-in base, three fan speeds, SGL1040 wick and maker-published scale with the analog CM330AWHT. The real choice is a short list of presets versus a continuously variable dial, not a different water or wick system.

Button settings are fixed choices, not a custom target

Press the power button to start the CM330DWHT, use the fan button to cycle among low, medium and high, then use the humidity button to choose a low, medium or high set point. The series manual associates those selections with 25%, 45% and 65% relative humidity. The humidistat cycles the fan around the selected level; the troubleshooting instructions say it may not run when room humidity is already close to the chosen setting. If the room reaches the very high humidity level described in the manual, the humidity lights blink and the fan stops until humidity falls. These are operating controls, not proof that the room will hold an exact percentage everywhere.

The panel should not be mistaken for a numerical readout or app. The manual identifies status lights above the fan and humidity buttons, but no on-device measured-RH display, phone control, timer or handheld remote. The selectable 25/45/65 values are useful if one of those three presets suits your routine. If you want a target between them, or want the broader variable range, the CM330AWHT’s analog humidistat is the closer fit. Conversely, if you prefer repeatable button selections and indicator lights over turning a dial, this digital version makes that exchange directly.

Same large pour-in base and airflow path

Rather than lifting and inverting a bottle, fill the Companion by pouring water into the sloped front section of its grille. The manual calls the base capacity 1.6 gallons and warns against overfilling. It also identifies a low-water indicator at the fill grille. Stop the machine before filling; if water reaches the chassis, the manual says it must dry fully before the unit is switched on. This can be convenient when you want to refill the unit in place, but you still need a safe, controlled pour and enough room to reach the front.

AIRCARE lists dimensions of 12 inches high by 11.5 inches wide by 14.1 inches deep. The maker describes it as sitting low to the floor, while the manual warns against soft carpet and asks for at least four inches of clearance from walls or curtains. Keep it away from heat registers and radiators, avoid aiming moist air at a thermostat, and lower the set point or relocate the unit if condensation develops. These setup instructions matter more than assuming the stated coverage figure will fit every floor plan.

Wick-fed moisture has a routine attached

The Companion moves air through a wet SGL1040 wick. That evaporative path makes invisible moisture rather than a visible ultrasonic plume and retains minerals in the wick. The manual lists up to 1,000 square feet for tight construction, with an eight-foot ceiling basis and an ANSI/AHAM reference; it warns that results differ with construction. The current product page lists a maximum runtime of 48 hours, but does not tie that maximum to a named speed or humidity setting. Consider the area and runtime figures useful comparison claims, not guaranteed room output or refill frequency.

Wick care is the ongoing cost in time and parts. AIRCARE recommends a new wick at the start of each season and roughly every 30–60 days of operation, more often where water is hard. It says to clean when changing the wick and describes a vinegar cleaning routine followed by a separate bleach-disinfection step. The guide also cautions that softener-treated water may build minerals faster, suggests distilled or purified water as an option for extending wick life, and says not to put essential oils in the water. Follow the exact manual’s quantities and unplugging steps; this is not a dishwasher-cleanable or filter-free appliance.

Who should choose the digital Companion?

Pick the CM330DWHT when you want a straightforward evaporative unit, the large pour-in reservoir, three fan speeds and one of the documented 25/45/65% humidity settings. The control behavior is more explicit than a continuously variable knob, but the fixed steps are limiting if your preferred target falls between them. For a variable range, compare the CM330AWHT; for a visible readout, app, remote or timer, compare a different model whose exact controls include it. Neither Companion is a warm-mist model, and neither manual provides an essential-oil route.

Because the two versions share a family guide, do not extrapolate every detail from the name alone: confirm the label CM330DWHT and the button panel if you are matching an existing unit or a used offer. This review uses the exact white digital listing and its current page, not a black sibling or an older CM330-family configuration. AIRCARE currently describes both white configurations on separate product pages and lists the same two-year limited warranty. Its current listing is not a guarantee of future stock, long-term part availability or any specific room result.

Evidence: AIRCARE’s CM330DWHT product page and AIRCARE/Champion Cooler document 1B72837, the CM330 Series Use and Care Guide dated 10/2018. Coverage, capacity, dimensions, runtime and set points are maker statements; no room-performance testing is claimed. The manufacturer gallery does not identify the art as photography versus rendering.

Paper, software and setup details

Manufacturer cleaning interval

Inspect and clean when changing the wick; manual recommends SGL1040 replacement at the start of each season and after every 30–60 days of operation, more often in hard water. Follow its vinegar cleaning and separate bleach-disinfection steps.

Water and care limits

Manual says only use the recommended evaporative bacteriostat as a water additive; do not add essential oils. It cautions that softened water may accelerate mineral buildup; distilled or purified water may extend wick life. Do not put the unit on soft carpet; place at least 4 inches from walls/curtains and away from heat registers. Reduce setting or relocate if condensation forms.
