A useful fit for

A fit for a household that wants evaporative wick humidification, a large pour-in base and a variable analog humidity setting, without app, remote or timer features.

The main tradeoff

The 1.6-gallon base is filled in place and the wick requires periodic replacement and cleaning. The variable dial has no numeric readout; choose the digital CM330DWHT if indicator-button presets suit you better.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Is wick-fed evaporative operation essential?

The exact page and family guide identify a fan-driven SGL1040 wick evaporative plan; it produces invisible moist air rather than an ultrasonic mist plume.

Do you prefer the variable rotary humidity setting?

Two rotary knobs select one of three fan speeds and a variable 20–80% humidity setting; the exact family manual calls this the analog CM330A panel.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can you accept an integrated pour-in base rather than an inverted bottle?

The manual fills the 1.6-gallon base through the sloped front grille and gives a low-water/fill indicator.

Would the maker-stated upper coverage figure suit your comparison?

The manual says up to 1,000 sq ft under tight construction with a stated test basis; room performance is not guaranteed.

Are you prepared to replace and clean an evaporative wick?

The exact guide specifies an SGL1040 wick and recommends replacement every 30–60 days of operation and more frequently in hard water.

The AIRCARE Companion CM330AWHT pairs a low 12-inch profile with a 1.6-gallon pour-in reservoir, three fan speeds and a variable analog humidistat. It is an evaporative wick model, so the maker describes moisture as invisible rather than a visible ultrasonic plume. AIRCARE publishes an upper coverage claim of 1,000 square feet for tight construction and a maximum runtime of 48 hours; treat both as model claims, not a guarantee for a particular room or refill interval.

Pour into the base; there is no tank to invert

The Companion holds its water in a 1.6-gallon base. To refill, switch it off and pour into the sloped section of the front grille, watching the low-water/fill indicator and stopping at the manual’s limit. This avoids removing a tank, opening a screw cap or carrying a filled reservoir from sink to room. The trade is that a full refill is a large pour, and spilled water on the chassis must dry completely before the unit is powered. If lifting a tank is the main nuisance, this arrangement may be easier; if a narrow sink or a smaller pitcher is your constraint, plan the pour and access before choosing it.

The listed body is 12 inches high by 11.5 inches wide and 14.1 inches deep. AIRCARE calls the Companion low to the floor, but that does not mean it belongs on soft carpet: the owner guide says not to place it there. It also calls for at least four inches from walls or curtains and distance from heat registers, radiators and hot-air ducts. Keep the moist-air outlet away from the thermostat and watch windows and walls; the instructions say to lower the humidity setting or move the unit if condensation forms.

A variable knob instead of a humidity display

On the CM330AWHT, one knob selects low, medium or high fan speed and a second, analog humidistat knob varies the humidity setting. The series manual gives the analog control a 20–80% range. The fan cycles around the selected humidity rather than running indefinitely: the troubleshooting section explains that it may stay off when room humidity is not sufficiently below the set level and may continue running while the room approaches it. That gives this version a more adjustable target range than the digital Companion’s three presets, but there is no numeric screen showing a precise measured reading. A separate hygrometer can help you judge the room; its measurement may differ from the appliance’s humidistat.

There is no documented phone app, handheld remote or timer. Do not mistake its refill indicator for humidity feedback: it reports the water condition, while the analog humidistat is the part that responds to room humidity. The fan and wick also mean this is not a silent, filter-free ultrasonic plan. It avoids visible mist, but you still need to accept airflow and periodic replacement of the SGL1040 wick.

The wick is both its method and its upkeep

Air passes through a saturated SGL1040 SuperWick, and evaporation carries moisture into the room while minerals remain in the wick. AIRCARE’s manual explains this as the reason the unit does not create the white mineral dust associated with some other humidification methods. The wick is a consumable: the guide recommends replacement at the start of a season and after about 30–60 days of operation, more often with hard water. It calls for cleaning when changing wicks and lays out separate vinegar-cleaning and bleach-disinfection steps. That work is part of ownership, not an optional add-on.

Water choice matters. The manual warns that softened water can lead to faster mineral buildup on the wick, says distilled or purified water may extend wick life, and limits water additives to the recommended evaporative bacteriostat. It explicitly says never to put essential oils in the water because they can damage seals and cause leaks. If oil use is essential, this is the wrong configuration; do not assume a pad or aroma accessory exists because another AIRCARE model offers one.

Use the area number as a boundary, not a promise

The exact series manual rates the unit for up to 1,000 square feet under tight construction and notes the basis includes an eight-foot ceiling and an ANSI/AHAM test reference; it also says results vary with construction. AIRCARE’s web page separately gives a 48-hour maximum-runtime figure without naming the fan speed or room condition. Neither tells you what humidity this machine will maintain in a leaky, open-plan or unusually dry home. For a room where humidity control matters, begin at a conservative setting, use a separate hygrometer and reduce output if condensation appears rather than chasing the headline area claim.

Choose the CM330AWHT if you want a simple evaporative routine, a large pour-in base, and a variable analog humidity setting without app dependence. Choose the CM330DWHT if you would rather select among illuminated button presets and do not need an adjustable target range. Both use the same basic wick, capacity, fill method and published scale. If you need warm mist, a cleanable dishwasher-safe component, a remote or app, an oil route, or a compact tank you can carry to the sink, compare a different reviewed model and confirm that its exact manual supports the requirement.

Evidence: AIRCARE’s CM330AWHT product page and AIRCARE/Champion Cooler document 1B72837, the CM330 Series Use and Care Guide dated 10/2018. Coverage, capacity, dimensions, runtime and control figures are manufacturer statements; no household or laboratory performance testing is claimed. The manufacturer gallery does not identify the art as photography versus rendering.

Paper, software and setup details

Manufacturer cleaning interval

Inspect and clean when changing the wick; manual recommends SGL1040 replacement at the start of each season and after every 30–60 days of operation, more often in hard water. Follow its vinegar cleaning and separate bleach-disinfection steps.

Water and care limits

Manual says only use the recommended evaporative bacteriostat as a water additive; do not add essential oils. It cautions that softened water may accelerate mineral buildup; distilled or purified water may extend wick life. Do not put the unit on soft carpet; place at least 4 inches from walls/curtains and away from heat registers. Reduce setting or relocate if condensation forms.
