Three model needs
LV600HH vs LV600S: remote or app, bottom or top access
The LV600HH and LV600S share Levoit's warm/cool hybrid format and a large advertised room range, but they solve different handling and control needs. The HH gives you an included physical remote and a bottom-fill tank; the S adds top access, VeSync and a more explicit low-setting runtime claim. Neither choice removes the need to refill, change water and clean the appliance.
Start with the control routine
Choose the LV600HH when a handset remote is more useful than a phone app. Its manual documents Auto Mode, which changes mist output or stops it from sensor readings, plus a separate RH control that lets you choose 40–80%. That humidity cutoff stops mist at the chosen point and restarts after the reading drops five points. The product-specific manual gives no VeSync pairing instructions; general ecosystem copy farther down the current web page does not establish that the LV600HH itself is a smart humidifier.
The LV600S supports VeSync remote operation, humidity monitoring, schedules and voice assistants. Its manual gives two sensor behaviors: Sleep Mode adjusts mist around 50–60% RH, while the separate Humidity Level button sets a 40–80% cutoff. Changing the selected humidity level exits Sleep Mode. The app list names on/off, mist and heat settings, Sleep Mode, display, monitoring, timers and schedules, but not the selected RH target; set that cutoff with the appliance controls unless current model-specific instructions say otherwise. The LV600S manual does not list a handheld remote in the package.
Refill and capacity are not interchangeable
Both are large tanks, but source wording differs. The LV600HH manual says 1.5 gallons / 5.6 liters maximum; the product page rounds the same gallon figure to 6 liters. The LV600S manual and current page say 1.58 gallons / 6 liters. For a hard minimum, use the manual-backed liter figure rather than rounding the HH upward. The LV600HH tank must be removed, turned over and unscrewed to fill. The LV600S uses a top cover and does not need that inversion, though the manual still has you lift the reservoir off the base.
Levoit lists a 430–753-square-foot effective range for both. Treat that as a maker claim, not a promise of uniform humidity across a connected home. Both have two directional nozzles and need a flat, water-resistant surface at least 12 inches from walls; neither belongs on carpet or a rug under its manual instructions. The published dimensions are not axis-labeled, so measure your shelf and refill clearance instead of treating the last number as verified height.
Compare the output and runtime evidence
Each unit is rated at 280 watts and up to 300 mL/h on cool mist. Levoit rates the HH's maximum warm output at 500 mL/h and the LV600S at 550 mL/h. The smart model's manual specifies 50 hours on low mist, with a warning that room temperature and humidity can change the run time. The HH has a source conflict: its current summary states up to 36 hours, while a lower marketing panel and gallery image state 50; the manual provides no hours figure. There is no sound basis for collapsing those into one verified HH runtime. For both, warm mist can take about 15 minutes to appear and needs cooling before you clean or move a recently used appliance.
Maintenance decides whether “large capacity” helps
The HH manual recommends water changes daily or every other day and cleaning every three days, with a tank deep clean every two weeks. The LV600S manual asks for daily water changes and weekly cleaning, plus cleaning and drying before storage. The HH manual recommends purified or distilled water; the S manual recommends purified water. Both prohibit dishwasher cleaning and base immersion, and direct essential oils to a separate aroma pad rather than the tank or base. The LV600S has a water-filter sponge and absorption pad; those service parts do not replace routine cleaning or prove that the unit removes minerals from your room air.
Both versions use 280 watts and a heater, so warmth adds an operating mode, a cool-down step and a hot-mist caution. If warm mist is not a requirement, a cool-only smart unit such as the Dual 200S may be a better-sized alternative. If you want a straightforward top-fill knob rather than a hybrid heater or an app, the reviewed white Dual 150 has a 3-liter tank and no documented warm-mist mode.
These are manufacturer-documented operating differences, not test results. Check each exact manual before use: LV600HH product page, LV600HH manual, LV600S product page, and LV600S manual.
