Crane EE-5957 1-Gallon Collapsible Warm Mist Humidifier, White review

A warm-mist humidifier with a 210 W heater, an approximately one-gallon/3.78-liter collapsible top-fill tank, a separate vapor tray and two output settings. The manual says it needs about 5–7 minutes to heat and claims up to 500 square feet; page and manual runtimes conflict.

A useful fit for

Best for a buyer who specifically wants warm mist, can safely accommodate a heated appliance, and values a collapsible one-gallon-class reservoir.

The main tradeoff

A heater and hot steam create placement and supervision concerns; the page says up to 15 hours while the manual says up to 24. The stated area is an upper manufacturer claim, not a measured result.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Is heated warm mist an essential feature?

The exact model has a heating element and warm steam after a 5–7 minute warm-up; it is not an ultrasonic model.

Explore this need in the finder →
Is a maker-stated upper area of at least 500 square feet useful for your plan?

Crane claims up to 500 square feet. A 505-square-foot threshold is beyond that claim.

Explore this need in the finder →
Do you need a reservoir that holds at least 3.5 liters?

The one-gallon tank is listed at approximately 3.78 L, meeting 3.5 L but not 4.0 L.

Explore this need in the finder →
Is a separate tray-based vapor-pad or essential-oil route required?

The manual confines vapor pads, essential oils and Crane liquids to the separate vapor tray, not the tank.

Explore this need in the finder →
Do you require physical buttons and status lights rather than a rotary dial?

The manual lists a power button and indicator lights, not a rotary output dial.

The Crane EE-5957 is the warm-mist counterpart to the collapsible EE-5958: an approximately one-gallon tank, top filling, a fold-down reservoir and a separate vapor tray, but with a heater rather than ultrasonic cool mist. The exact manual reports up to 24 hours and a 500-square-foot upper-area figure; the current product page advertises up to 15 hours. It also lists 210 watts and a warm-up period of roughly five to seven minutes. That heat changes the safety and ownership decision, not just the feeling of the output.

Warm output is a real use-case choice

A warm-mist humidifier heats water and produces steam; it is not a way to guarantee more comfortable air or treat congestion. Crane’s manual says the unit needs five to seven minutes before steam rises. It offers two output settings and shuts off mist when the water is depleted. Warm steam, a hot heating element and an electrical appliance do not belong where a child or pet can tip, touch or reach them. Crane’s manual says an adult should operate the humidifier and warns that the product is not a toy. A “nursery” or family-room label should not be read as child-proofing.

The same tank has two runtime claims

The EE-5957’s manual specifies an approximate 1 gallon or 3.78 liters, up to 24 hours per tank and up to 500 square feet. The current page instead says up to 15 hours. We preserve the discrepancy, and neither number is a guarantee for every room or setting. Crane lists noise under 40 decibels at three feet and 210 watts. The warm-mist choice therefore includes a different energy draw and heat source from a cool-mist ultrasonic unit. If low electricity use, no hot surface or a very young child’s room is a deciding factor, compare a cool-mist model rather than treating the temperature as cosmetic.

Collapsing helps after use, not while full

The manual directs the owner to gently extend the flexible tank by its upper and lower handles, place it on the empty base with the mist chamber covering the heating element, then fill from the top without reaching the rim. It explicitly warns against moving the device with a full tank on the base. Once emptied and cleaned, the tank folds down for storage; Crane’s page says it reduces storage size by around half. It is a useful occasional-use or seasonal-storage feature, but the manual’s top-fill routine still requires a stable sink-side setup and care when carrying water.

Use the separate vapor tray correctly

The exact manual allows vapor pads, essential oils or Crane liquids only in the designated vapor tray. It says not to add medication, salt or a vapor pad to the water tank. That distinction supports a tray-based fragrance plan, not direct tank dosing. The vapor-pad warnings also set special limits around infants and smaller children; consult the complete manual before using pads in a home with a baby. The product page says the tray is designed for Crane vapor pads and notes that pads are sold separately. Fragrance is optional, not a substitute for cleaning or humidity monitoring.

Maintenance and alternatives

Crane directs owners to empty and air-dry the tank and base daily, and to clean the tank and base with vinegar on a regular weekly schedule. The water-level sensor float and mist chamber need to stay clean and correctly placed. The manual cautions against leaving the humidifier in a closed room where air could become saturated and surfaces could collect condensation. If you prefer a one-gallon reservoir without a heater, the EE-5958 shares the collapsible idea but produces cool ultrasonic mist, has a different noise claim and shares the conflicting runtime issue. The EE-5957’s differentiator is heated output, not a larger documented coverage claim.

Who should consider it

Consider the EE-5957 when a warm-mist mode is essential, the one-gallon class reservoir is useful and the room can safely accommodate a heated appliance on a level, raised waterproof surface. Skip it when cool mist, automation, a precise runtime or a child-accessible placement is required. Its area number is an upper manufacturer claim, not a performance guarantee. The official archived full-unit image shows a white collapsible body and Crane mark; its photo-versus-render status is unspecified.

Paper, software and setup details

Manufacturer noise claim

Exact manual: below 40 dB measured at 3 ft; maker claim, not independent measurement.

Manufacturer cleaning interval

Empty and air-dry tank/base daily; clean weekly with vinegar; keep mist chamber over heating element during use. Oils, pads and liquids belong only in the vapor tray, never the tank/basin.
