Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Would a manual two-speed evaporative unit suit an existing-unit need, or is heated warm mist essential?
The 5/04 manual identifies wick-fed evaporation and two motor speeds, not heated mist. It is a technical fit for an existing evaporative unit; reference-only status keeps it out of a new-purchase match.
Explore this need in the finder →Can you remove a water bottle to refill it, or must the unit be filled through the top in place?
The manual describes removing the bottle and opening its cap to refill. It does not establish a fill-in-place top opening or an exact bottom-fill orientation.
Explore this need in the finder →Is automatic humidity response essential, or is a manual two-speed control acceptable?
The 5/04 manual assigns the automatic humidistat to sibling model 736200 and identifies 726000 as two-speed; no numeric target or automatic humidity plan is documented for 726000.
Explore this need in the finder →The BEMIS / Essick Air 726000 is a wick-driven evaporative humidifier documented in Owner’s Care and Use Manual 586 4170, revision 5/04. That guide identifies a removable 1¾-gallon water bottle and two motor speeds. AIRCARE’s current support directory still lists 726000 in its SGL1040 SuperWick group, but that is parts guidance rather than a current humidifier offer. This page is an identification and care reference for an existing unit, not a new-purchase recommendation.
Keep 726000 separate from its siblings
The manual names 726000 as a two-speed machine with a removable bottle and optional Air Care filter. It separately lists 736200 and 737600 as three-speed models; the same instructions assign an automatic humidistat to 736200 and a running indicator lamp to 737600. Those controls should not be transferred to a 726000 simply because all three codes appear in one booklet. The manual also names 726905 as a two-speed model, but the exact relationship between that code and 726000 is not established here. Read the rating label on the unit before using a sibling’s instructions or parts assumptions.
AIRCARE’s support page groups BEMIS 726000 with other models that use the SGL1040 SuperWick. Shared wick compatibility does not make the humidifiers interchangeable. In particular, it does not establish the 726000’s tank layout, controls, output or generation from a nearby BEMIS code. The manufacturer-issued manual is the source for the operating details below; its revision date is part of the model identification.
What the two-speed evaporative design does
The 726000 moves air through a wet evaporative wick. The manual describes the resulting moisture as invisible rather than a spray or visible mist. Its speed knob selects two motor settings, and the manual says the faster setting moves more air and can humidify more. It describes the low setting as quiet for overnight use, but does not give a sound measurement. Runtime per refill varies with room humidity, selected speed and wick condition, so the 1¾-gallon bottle is not a promise of a fixed number of hours.
This is a localized-room design, not a whole-house system. The manual recommends at least four inches of space from walls, placement away from heat registers and avoiding soft carpet. It gives no room-area rating, output-per-day figure, wattage or measured noise value in the reviewed material. If a numerical coverage claim or an exact operating cost is essential, the 726000’s available documentation does not support one.
Refilling and wick care are part of ownership
The water bottle is removable, and the manual says its cap can be taken off for filling and easier cleaning. A valve meters water from the bottle into the base channel and wick. That is a lift-and-carry routine, not a documented fill-in-place top opening; the inspected text does not explicitly establish the bottle’s fill orientation. If you require a top-fill unit, this model does not meet that condition. If a particular bottom-fill orientation matters, confirm it from the manual and hardware for the exact machine rather than guessing from a similar unit.
Plan for recurring wick replacement. The 5/04 guide recommends changing the evaporative wick at least once per season and more often in hard-water areas when mineral deposits build up. It names SGL1040 as the replacement water wick and #1052 as an optional air-cleaning filter if that filter is installed. AIRCARE’s current support and SGL1040 pages also list 726000 in the compatibility group. The current accessory listing does not prove that the humidifier itself is being sold, nor that an old unit includes the optional filter.
Which needs it can and cannot meet
For someone who already owns a clearly labeled 726000, the reference is useful if you want basic wick-based evaporation, a manual two-speed setting and a single removable water bottle. It is not a fit when heated warm mist, fill-in-place top filling or automatic humidity response is essential. The manual identifies the automatic humidistat on the distinct 736200 model, not on the 726000. It does not document an app, remote, timer, numeric humidity target or automatic empty-reservoir shutoff for this exact configuration; treat those features as unconfirmed, not as benefits.
For a new humidifier, compare currently listed exact models and their manuals rather than shopping from the 726000 support entry. AIRCARE’s current humidifier category does not establish a 726000 offer, and compatibility pages are not stock listings. This review makes no claim that the machine is permanently discontinued or unavailable everywhere. It simply keeps the older documented model useful to an owner without turning a parts reference into a buying match.

Manufacturer cleaning interval
The 5/04 manual recommends at least seasonal wick replacement and more often in hard-water areas; it directs regular cleaning and identifies the SGL1040 replacement water wick. The optional #1052 air-cleaning filter is not assumed included.
