Dreo smart humidifiers

Dreo 774S vs 747S vs HM735S: evaporation or ultrasonic mist?

Dreo’s 774S, 747S and HM735S are not simply three tank sizes in one family. The 774S humidifies through a wick and fan with no visible mist; the other two are ultrasonic cool-mist towers. Choosing among them means deciding how you want moisture delivered, where the machine can sit, and how much recurring care fits your routine.

Start with mechanism, not the biggest number

The 774S is the unusual one. Dreo calls it an evaporative, mist-free design, with a washable wick, 10-liter tank, 800 mL/h maximum output and up-to-50-hour runtime. Its product page gives a room-area ceiling of 1,000 square feet. Those specifications are manufacturer claims, not a promise that one unit will maintain a chosen humidity level throughout every open-plan home. The effect depends on room size, heat, ventilation and the moisture the room is losing.

The 747S and HM735S instead create ultrasonic cool mist. Both use 11-liter tanks; Dreo advertises up to 100 hours and an upper area figure of 700 square feet for these tower models. The HM735S includes a physical remote and a separate aroma-pad route in its exact-model documentation. The 747S has a product-page description of its features, but a selectable target range and oil compatibility should not be assumed from another Dreo model’s instructions. When a particular manual capability is essential, compare the exact model-specific paperwork rather than transferring facts across similar-looking towers.

In short: the 774S is the choice to investigate when you prefer evaporation over an ultrasonic plume; the 747S and HM735S make more sense when an ultrasonic tower’s mist output is what you want. “Mist-free” does not mean filtered or purified room air. It describes the visible output style, not a medical or air-cleaning promise.

Capacity and runtime do not answer the refill question by themselves

The two ultrasonic towers hold one liter more than the 774S, and their published maximum runtime is twice as long. Dreo does not tie the runtime maximum to one specific output setting, so it is not a guarantee of days between fills at high output. The 774S publishes a higher maximum output rate but a shorter runtime claim; that is not a contradiction if the settings and test conditions differ. It is a reminder to treat capacity, output and runtime as separate specifications.

Refill handling may matter more than capacity. The 747S and HM735S are described as top-fill towers, but their lids, tanks and internal assemblies still need to be cleaned as each manual directs. For the 774S, the user instructions are especially explicit: remove the upper body, wick frame and support frame before filling the tank, stop at the MAX line, then reinstall the parts. It is top access, but not a casual pour through an open lid. Also, the 774S manual calls for a stable surface 60 cm above the floor and clearance from walls or wooden furniture. That can rule it out where a suitable elevated surface is unavailable, regardless of its listed 24.68-inch appliance height.

Control details that change the match

The 774S manual documents three fan speeds, a 12-hour on-device timer and an Auto target selectable from 30% to 90% in five-point increments. It also supports app control and Dreo’s voice-assistant setup through the app. The included package list does not contain a handheld remote. So a shopper who requires a numeric humidity cutoff and app settings, but does not need a handset, has a genuine reason to consider the 774S.

The HM735S also documents a user-selected Auto range and includes a physical remote, along with app and voice control. Its 11-liter reservoir may suit someone who wants more water capacity and prefers ultrasonic cool mist. The 747S is a separate 11-liter ultrasonic alternative with app/remote controls and a different lighting/accessory configuration. If an exact 747S setting or accessory route is decisive, check the exact product’s supplied instructions rather than using the HM735S manual as a substitute.

Maintenance decides who will be happy with it

For the 774S, the wick filter is washable, but not maintenance-free: the manual recommends weekly washing and replacement every three months, and its safety guidance requires careful water handling and frequent tank cleaning. Dry Mode helps dry the wick; it does not replace rinsing, drying or periodic descaling. The instructions recommend purified or distilled water to limit white residue and expressly prohibit putting oil or liquid medication in the water tank. No aroma pad is documented for this model.

The ultrasonic 747S and HM735S avoid a wick replacement schedule, but they still have water paths and cleaning requirements. Ultrasonic output can carry dissolved minerals into the room, so water choice and residue management are practical considerations; it is not safe to infer that a cartridge or pad from one model fits another. The HM735S offers a documented aroma pad, while the 774S’s manual instead says to keep oils out of its tank and does not describe an alternate aroma accessory. If fragrance is essential, compare the exact product’s dedicated route and included parts.

A practical shortlist

Choose by the constraint that cannot be compromised. Pick the 774S for evaporative operation, selectable Auto humidity, app control and a raised placement that meets its manual. Consider HM735S for an 11-liter ultrasonic tower with a remote and documented aroma pad. Compare the 747S where its own controls and appearance suit you, while checking exact instructions for details that matter. If warm mist is a requirement, neither 774S nor the two cool-mist towers in this comparison is the relevant answer; look at a separate warm/cool model such as the HM717S.

Room-area ceilings and longest-runtime figures are useful context, not independent performance tests. Choose the unit whose refill, placement and cleaning routine works in the room you actually have. A large tank is only an advantage if someone can lift it, keep the sensor away from a corner, and follow the maker’s water-care steps.

Put the room and upkeep together.
